This early precursor to Impression's superb Caesar series is a complex strategy/war game that, unlike its contemporaries, emphasizes economic and personnel aspects as much as military ones. Contend with internal affairs, including loyalty of legions, while you wage wars with neighboring empires. Scripted events based on real historical trends also add to the fun.
Definitely a forgotten classic that was well ahead of its time. Highly recommended!

Rome really got it in the annals.
Hi, where did the dowonloads for the non-DOS versions of this game go? It says it is no longer abandonware, however on GOG it looks like they are only selling the DOS version. Am I misunderstanding and they include all versions? If not why have the downloads for the Amstrad, Commodore, Spectrum, etc. versions been removed, and where can I find them now?
As a fan of the classic turn strategies, I am seriously disappointed with this game. It pretends to be much more sophisticated and well thought-of than it really is. Numerous bugs, inconsistencies and clear absurds in this game (i.e. insane amounts of revolting forces, barbarian hordes, total randomness of the Roman commanders' behaviour and loyalty - not at all related with what the parameters tell you) ruin the whole fun that the game (and all the enthusiastic reviews) promises. I tend to agree with the score the game received from "Your Sinlair" in 1987 (40%). 2/5 for the effort and for the manual, but I doubt the game itself really deserves 2 stars. It fails to deliver fun and runs terribly slow.
I spent countless hours as a boy getting destroyed on my Amstrad with this game :) I knew no french then and also had no idea that any key push skips the next move prompt, so i could not even play for quite some time, but still kept trying. I love this game.

Personal Software Services (PSS), I love you, I love this game, I love ALL your games, will you marry me? XXX
Seriously though, one of my all time faves, the random time scale between turns added a huge amount of variation to each game. Your nice stable empire enters a dreaded one year time period, barbarians invade, combat is not settled leading to uncontrolled provinces, Generals then revolt. Result, Barbarians, Civil War and a genuinely challenging game.
Surprisingly good, even in 2014. To make play easier, print out a screenshot of the map with the country letter codes for ease of use when working on other screens.
