Bruce Lee

DOS - 1987

One of the first semi-realistic side-scrollers for PC. MobyGames has the scoop on this martial arts classic:

Bruce Lee is a decent platform game with a lot of action thrown in. Reflexes are needed to pass certain sections, as is a lot of timing to jump past obstacles. You're pursued by two enemies, who unrelentlessly come after you, snapping at your heels.

It's very fun for anyone who likes platform games. There is no "easy" mode to help novice gamers get used to the game. Also, fighting the enemies is relatively easy and just gets irritating after a while.

Finally, Bruce Lee only runs at the correct speed on a 4.77MHz PC. Well, one more gripe, actually--you're Bruce Lee, yet you only have two moves, punching and a flying kick. A little disappointing from a master of martial arts. If you love platform games that require good reflexes and timing, Bruce Lee fits the bill."

The game also features a great range of movement and attacks that makes games such as Bushido simplistic in comparison. Two thumbs up!

Note: If you like the game, also check out Mark Rosten's amazing 2001 remake of the 16-color Commodore 64 version, also on this site.

To make it a bit easier, use 2 player mode and make sure the second player joystick is constantly giving a signal. This keeps the green enemy out of computer control , effectively getting him out of your way.
If you do not give any movement signal for player two, the computer will re take control of the green enemy after a while.

Tested on C64 version, others might also work that way.

I can't get the joystick to work in this game C64 version using C64Forever by Cloanto (Vice) emulator. Keyboard doesn't work either. Anyone else have similar issues?

Classic game for its time. Great gameplay and graphics, music... coiuldn't really fault it as it was simply just fun to play. Ninjas were easy to kill, the fat green sumos were a bit tougher needing an extra kick to dispatch.. collect lanterns throughout the levels.. what else?. I can't remember now haha, but one of the best games of it's generation.

I played this and Zorro for hours on my C64 when I was 16. I can still hear that noise the bad guy makes when he enters the screen. i can also hear the damn music for Zorro right now! Thirty-two years later! Sheesh!

One of my favorites. Its probably the first platform/fighting game ever. The graphics were nicer on the C64 version. I still remember the title screen music. The characters were called the Green Yamo and the Stick Wielding Ninja. The two player option lets the second player play as the Green Yamo.

I LOVED this game and spent countless hours as a kid playing it on my Atari 800xl. It's amazing just to see a screenshot again!

this game was awsome! i believe the version I played on the Commodore 64 bugged out everytime you were about to beat it -- so technically, I've never beaten it!
