Cyber Empires

DOS - 1992
Also available on: Amiga

Better known as Steel Empire in Europe, which sold better than its US incarnation, Cyber Empire is a fun sci-fi strategy game that combines furious tactical combat and grand strategic planning into a highly enjoyable game.

In a nice twist to standard conquer-the-universe gameplay, Cyber Empire eschews the tedious micromanagement commonly found in other games, and focus instead on fun, action-oriented ship-to-ship combat, ship design, and fast pace. Master of Orion this ain't, but it is nonetheless striking its own territory with attractive graphics and high playability.

Perfect for anyone who tire of managing hundreds of planets in MOO and want to try their luck with a faster-pace strategy game with a dash of action. Thumbs up!

I do not see a money bag symbol on the thumbnail, nor do I see a download link for the game. But I do see comments for this game. How does one download it from this website, legitimately? Thank you.

Back then, every last game has its own character, with their unique graphics, interfaces and gameplays.

Wonderful game play against each other on one keyboard. I wish for a remake on modern phone!

Two very short sounds on a tv show sparked my memory of this game, suddenly the images came flashing and I had to try it again. Was great. :D

Why oh why did I sell my Amiga 500...

I've really enjoyed playing this game and I also remember once or twice we even had a multiplay when many of us played from my family: brothers and cousins - even the older girl cousin of mine!

When I had android (it's sad but it was stolen from me) I installed dosbox on it and it was playable then even on my phone and it seemed pretty decent on a phone too!

I used to develop games for hobbies and always tought of doing a remake of this with new graphics. I have a discontinued tile engine in xna for an another project so who knows... maybe there is a chance I will do it if I manage to get that XNA project working on my linux machine as I stopped using windows :-)

Blast from the past. Haven't played this game since the early 90's. Let's see how it goes.

Played the Euro version, Steel Empires, on the Atari ST. Great game for its time. Happy to enjoy it again.

I too played this game as a kid. It was a lot of fun. The mix of strategy and real-time action was one of the things that made it so enjoyable. It was a little depressing that there was only one map, but I still think it was one of my favorite strategy/war games.

I wish someone would remake the game with better graphics, multiple maps, multiplayer online, etc. Or even create an app for it to play on IOS/Droid.

I used to play this, years ago - when it first came out. Loved it! Both playing by myself and against friends (all at the same computer) is a great memory :)

Had this for ages; played the living heck out of it!

Mix of strategy (capturing provinces, developing them to build 'mechs' and defend themselves with turrets/walls) then top-down realtime action when combat occurs.

I'll admit as I've been getting older I've resorted to using the walker with the four guided missiles for myself to snipe defending mechs and then the rest of my invasion force would either be the top one (with the LRMs and the beam cannons) or the twin-beam cannon users to just stand and bombard the defenses from long range, ripping holes in the walls and allowing a quick charge through the breech to destroy the enemy capitol. :)

Still not *quite* as good as Silicon Knights' other similar title Fantasy Empires, but still a lotta fun and worth it to fiddle with DOSbox to get it working. ^_^

It looks cool, I'd like to know what other people who have played think of it
