Cyberchess

DOS - 1992

Cyber Chess is a decent clone of Interplay’s Battle Chess, although with far inferior graphics and animations, even if it was released a few years later.

The pieces are cast as sci-fi kings, queens, and robots, fighting for survival with chess moves as the only weapons. The game is played from a top-down (i.e. bird’s eye view) perspective, with a small window at the lower right of the screen dedicated to showing the current piece you have selected. The computer AI is decent, although there is no way to change difficulty level. The game does include minimal options, such as move hints and player history that keeps track of your games.

Overall, a nice low-budget title that does nothing better than commercial chess releases... although not much worse, either, except for the lack of options.

When I play this game, I feel like I'm playing chess. And that, of course, because it's a game of chess, yes, of course it's a great feeling, it's hard to explain why hair falls out and of course in the end there's a golf course on the head, yes of course. Thank you

This is an exciting game, I have been talking to the chess board for a long time but until now there has been no answer, even though it was a hint from my chess teacher. This made me even more confused, because the chess board never answered anything? Then I asked my friend, and my friend suggested that I talk to the surfboard and now frankly from the bottom of my heart I am getting more and more confused.

Me gusta mucho este juego, el ajedrez te hace pensar en cómo lidiar con la caída del pelo, tienes que preguntar al tablero de ajedrez y escuchar la inevitable calvicie crónica. ¡Muchas gracias

John Carmack, John Romero (DOOM), and Jay Wilbur (Commander Keen) were some of the masterminds behind this game, just one year before DOOM's release. I like to think maybe this was played in the background between programming sessions for what would be (and WAS) the father of modern FPS (barring Wolfenstein, of course.)

This game is a gem. Rough, but all gems start that way.

I remember that in 2006, I still have a copy of Cyberchess. I love the game's strategy of planning and persistent attack on the opponent's King and it influenced my game a lot. You will also learn all the good openings that was invented by letting Cyberchess play against itself !? I just wonder why the developers did not edit the source codes so that it can also be played on Windows, and not DOS! I would love to comment more about this game as I love to play Cyberchess over and over again. I highly recommend this to my children and my children's children who will love chess as a sport.
