Another popular SEGA arcade game converted to the IBM-PC. This time it's SEGA's 1986 arcade hit OutRun, the classic bitmap racer. The original arcade game just rocks, so get yourself an emulator and play the real thing instead of this mediocre conversion.
The graphics are awful, music is PC speaker only - but it's playable and can be quite some fun! Just don't compare it with the original. ;) But a short question to the related music files below: Is Jason Brooke actually David Whittaker? Their music sure sounds very similar. Fortunately the PC conversion of the sequel, Turbo OutRun, is much, much better.

The Amiga version doesn't allow you to configure the control type; I could only play with the mouse.
nice jobs
and nice game i like and always play this
https://leadercompany.ge/
same as the arcade way to hard to beat
this stuff was mainstream then
and i am glad markets have changed
overall.
i mean, you can play to level 2 for example
but then every second counts towards
your doom. go try to second precise
drive it through.
and also on a xt running on 4mhz
this game was unbeatable because
of the slow speed. they used the interal
system timer to manage the ingame
racing time. where a xt on cga could not
get above 15-20 fps at max in this game,
the stage would progress slower due to
this. result whatever you do you are
game over.
The DOS version developed by Distinctive Software, Inc. (under the pseudonym Unlimited Software, Inc.).
I think this game is okay. It does support Tandy sound which is slightly better than the pc-speaker.
To clear the high score list in the DOS version, you must delete "SCORESE.DAT" (EGA mode), "SCORESC.DAT" (CGA mode) and "SCOREST.DAT" (Tandy mode) from the game folder - the game will make new score files itself.
DOS Hotkeys:
Ctrl+P:
Pause
Ctrl+S or Ctrl+Q (does not work in the Tandy mode):
Off/On Music & Sound*
*NOTE: It will BEEEEEEEEEEEEEP in the PC Speakers mode.
Ctrl+K:
Keyboard
Ctrl+J:
Joystick
Ctrl+X:
Instant Return to DOS
Driving a Testarossa Spider with some Italo Disco blasting on my stereo... heaven!
Played two different versions of this game: Mega Drive port and Arcade original game. Both are fun, but that damn timer that ends game for you too fast is freaking annoying.
Kavinsky's stories, this game is awesome and i just have to say only this.
Best game of the 80's for me, still playing it now on MAME.
The favorite game of one of my friends back in the 80's. I myself found it a bit ordinary as I wasn't big on the racing games. Not bad though.
Bad review, are you joking, this was the game of the 80's?
Hello
It does not work in Dos, I use Dos 6.2
I had this on C64 and it came with a music cassette of the sound track. When I git my first car, I used to play the sound track cassette sometimes when driving. It's a bizarre experience listening to 'Splash Wave' whilst doing only 30mph....
When this game first came out in the local arcade I placed 1st I was about 11 at the time arcade graphics looked better tho still a fun game. now I'm 37 still like this game as well as many other dos games.
