In general I would say you might be better off with another port, though I haven't tried the other ports so...stick with the original arcade version of the original Tetris.

This version is the first I ever played... on CGA displays and later on EGA displays. Yeah, we never had a sound card. I like this version because the rotate key makes sense (numpad 5) but unfortunately, I have a PC keyboard attached to a Mac and things don't work well enough, even running on the browser ... (thank you Apple for fooking up the keyboard).

Beg pardon, but this version DOES have music. DOSbox won't play it though, because the game needs to detect a very specific type of sound card, and the DOSbox emulation for that type of card isn't good enough to fool the game. The music is in the game, though. The sound card is NOT the classic SoundBlaster (I forget what it needs to be), but I do recall playing it on a regular x86 PC with a TSR that faked the sound card and played through the PC speaker.

Trying to get the DOSBox version to work. I've got it running easy enough, but how does one customize the controls? I can use the arrow keys to move back and forth, but not rotate the pieces.

There was no music because most first generation PC's didn't have sound cards.

Awesome version of Tetris! Being the first commercial version, and beingfrom Spectrum Holobyte only sweetens the deal!! Lovin' the backgrounds too. Saying this is the only worthwhile version however is just daft.

Agreed, this is a great version of Tetris. It was always fun to get to the next level and see what the background was going to be.

This was the *original* commercial version of Tetris. One of the most pirated games in pirating history, Every other version of Tetris was nothing more than a knockoff of this, and weak ones at that. If you want Tetris to waste hours playing, download this one and let the others collect rust.

I found the Atari ST version of Tetris hugely disappointing.
I did a video on it if anyone is interested.
