One of the most gripping "realistic" adventures ever produced, The Great Escape puts you in the role of a World War II pilot who is captured by the Germans and must --what else?-- escape from the prison.
The puzzles are standard find-everything-that-isn't-nailed-down affair, but there are may scripted events and characters you must take advantage of. For example, figuring out the daily routine of prison life and the guards' patrol routes are essential to plotting your escape. Puzzles are obvious (e.g. use poison on guard dog), but the truly affective adrenaline rush you'll feel when implementing your plan is the best thing about this game.
Overall, it's a fun but forgotten classic, and the graphics was good for its time. Thumbs up!

This might be the first stealth game that I played on the good old ZX Spectrum 128k+2. If the kids today think the games are hard now, its because they never played this one. No save points, no checkpoints, the isometric can be tricky too, not missing the prison calls, only patience and some witts can beat this game in one play section, and if you get caught only once, you have to start all over again. Only players of "Where Time Stood Still" can be ready for this one. Playing in a isometric scenario its never easy, trust me I know, in the 80s isometric games was a trend (Batman, Alien 8, Knight Lore, Head Over Heals, WolfMan, Where Time Stood Still, and many others), just like FPS are today.
"Buy game"
REALLY??
Great game that makes you think, but I never managed to actually escape.
Played the Amstrad version growing up in Spain. Quite difficult game, we has theese 'English Sheep Shaggers' in our neighbourhood who use to steal games and this was one of them.
I liked playing this it was a lot of fun but some things I could never get to work like the poison one of the three keys if I could get those two things to work to it would have been even better
the game base to movie , is a retro but is good.
I played this on the spectrum, it was great...
