Willow

DOS - 1988
Also available on: Amiga - Atari ST - Commodore 64

Willow is an oldie action game based on LucasFilm's fantasy movie of the same name starring Val Kilmer. Not a classic, but an interesting movie conversion with some nice ideas.

The game faithfully follows the movie's script, casting you as Willow, a gnome who is assigned to protect a baby destined to end the black magic reign of evil Queen Bavmorda. The game consists of five parts, all of them being completely different mini action games. The plot progresses via cut-scenes that are shown between these segments.

Sadly, none of these sub-games is executed well enough to capture anyone's interest. Technically, though, I was quite impressed by the Ice Caves part where you race down a tunnel. The graphics in that section are quite impressive for its time-- too bad the other sections just aren't as much fun.

Recommended only if you're a fan of the movie. For a better conversion, though, play the RPG of the same name that CAPCOM released in 1989 for the NES instead.

indeed this game can be evaluated as a premise for today's games., while it targets to make player participate in a movie-like experience, with the help of small action sequences combined with cut-scenes.

Never mind, I figured it out. I thought that I had already tried every Function key, but apparently I hadn't. The PC DOS key to exit the game is F10.

Anyone know what the keyboard controls are, or where to find the manual for the PC DOS version? I'm mainly interested in what command exits the game entirely without having to switch from DOSBox to Windows to force the program to quit.

I don't get all the hype about Dosbox-Turbo.
I've found out Magic-Dosbox to be working much better in comparison.
This is NOT AN AD for either of these emulator apps. You judge for yourself

Was tremendously disappointed to find this here. I was expecting NOT the NES version but the Action oriented/RPG hybrid coin-op arcade version instead. That would have been ten times more fun then this letdown.
