10th Frame

DOS - 1987
Also available on: Amstrad CPC - Atari ST - Commodore 64 - MSX - ZX Spectrum

Probably the best bowling game of the 1980s, 10th Frame Bowling is a fun bowling game for up to 8 players. Two gameplay modes are available: Open Bowling (a single match) or League Bowling (the complete league). League Bowling is where you compete in teams, with 4 members each.

Although the game looks quite primitive in CGA color, the graphics are crisp and the animations believably smooth. The interface is intuitive: similar to the common "golf meter" in golf games, you use the left and right arrow keys to choose the direction for the ball, and press the spacebar at the right moment to throw it. Simple, but flawlessly executed.

If you enjoy bowling games, 10th Frame Bowling is a true pioneer in the genre you must have in your collection. If you are not a bowling fan, this may very well be the game that sparks your interest in the sport. Timelessly enduring and playable - a must-have.

Runs great in DOSBox, but the colors in the DOS version leave a lot to be desired.

At the time, a nice little title. Quite enjoyed it, got a few hours out of this. Came with one of the first editions of Commodore Format I bought.

Ok - this games works great in DosBox 0.74 on a Win7 machine. The sounds are PC-Speaker like tones - the colors are EGA style meaning maybe four colors in play?

This game allows for up to 8 people to play - which is cool.
Easy controls - arrows I think to aim and spacebar to throw.

My only gripe is not a fair one: This game is SO old I had trouble getting into it and I actually like playing both leading edge games and old old games - so this one just felt too old or something to me. Not a complaint - it works great - just never grabbed me and I like bowling simulators now and again.

This game made bowling even more boring, you can;t even hit people. They should make a bowling game where you could just smash peoples heads in with bowling balls.
