Amazon

DOS - 1984
Also available on: Apple II - Commodore 64 - Mac - MSX

As an agent of the NSRT (National Satellite Resources Technology), you happen to be the first witness of the sad fate suffered by all members of an archeological expedition sent to uncover the fabled Lost City of Chak.

Apparently, the whole expedition was murdered by a tribe of cannibals. And guess what? Now YOU are the one who has to travel to the Amazon to uncover the mystery... And that's only the beginning of your problems.

Mysterious people are trying to kill you. Professor Benekker, an expert on the Amazon who was supposed to accompany you, turns up dead. As a replacement, you'll end up with his highly-intelligent (but highly-obnoxious) parrot, Paco. Be prepared to face wild animals, savage tribes, guerillos, and even a live volcano, as you make your way to the remnants of the expedition and the Lost City.

Contrary to what many people think, this game isn't based on any actual story by Michael Crichton. It's an original game on which Mr. Crichton worked even before Telarium contacted him. If you compare it to similar games from the same period, Amazon stands out with its "story-driven" plot, which somewhat compensates for the CGA graphics and Telarium's ackward parser.

The above mentioned is not true. The version provided here is badly cracked.

TOSEC has a proper version of the DOS Version. You should replace it.

There is no point trying the DOS version. Like previously mentioned by everybody it has the impassable computer bug, the 969/072 codes do not work, ever.
I recommend the Apple 2 version or C64 version. Apple 2 version was the original and it has most details that seem to lack in at least the DOS version, like tuning in the transmission in the beginning of the game. Also, it has better graphics. C64 was working much slower for some reason, but maybe it was the Android emulator I tried it on. Apple 2 version works perfectly.

Amazing (or amazoning, lol!) game. One of my favorite DOS-ROMs ever. Thanks!

I can’t get the computer to work, either. It simply won’t accept the 969 code

The game is broken. You can't get past the start of the jungle. When you turn on your computer and put in code 969 or 072 the computer won't accept the codes and shuts off. You need the computer to stop being lost

So, I have a MAC - OS X El Capitan version 10.11.6 How do I get this onto my computer? ...and IF I happen to locate my old floppy disk of Amazon, would that help get me in another way? Thanks! (spent a thousand hours and yes, we have beaten it, but most recently on another computer, we died.)

The input code is found by typing INVENTORY as soon as you get the backpack. There's a bug in the game. You don't examine the backpack when given (as it says in the manual), you do an inventory. That's when the note appears with the number. (In my case it was 969. I don't know if it's random or not.)

I can not save the game in Dosbox, when typing save the game asks to insert a floppy in b drive. Obviously I have no floppy drive anylonger. Does anyone know how this can be solved ?

downloaded it and played it on DosBox and worked out pretty well. WalkThru is on cheatguru.com . A few mistakes on the WalkThru ... Little things but not to hard to figure out. There were a few things missing on this version like when you had to actually shoot the cannibals at the camp to protect your cAMP outside of calk. and the video of the cannibals killing the old crew. I never did beat the game as a kid, Used to play it on a Sanyo computer that was only like 10% IBM compatible and would not play most games. Something went wrong and the computer stopped working , to come back and beat it 27 years later was fun. look forward to under root and best of all "nine princes of Amber" davidcharleslentz@gmail.com

I got to the antechamber doors, and could never get past. No matter which one I chose, the game crashed... And how many people lost Paco by cussing at him?

My dad bought this game for me for my IBM PCjr back in 1985 or so. I played to the same point and had the same problem. We took it back to the store and I remember playing the game in the store to the jungle where you could not continue to prove to the salesman that the game was broken. They refunded our money. So it's not DOSbox or the copy of the game that's here for download, my original copy had the same issue 26 years ago.

I was having fun playing this text adventure, but once I woke up in the jungle, after getting lost and the computer starts beeping, It will not let me contact Nsrt ( or whatever the company is called ). I think the computer input codes are broken in the game or something, at least with DOSbox anyway.

Basically what happens is when trying to use the computer it says there is no emergency. If anyone figure out how to get past that part let me know.
