Don't let the disappointing 1994 CD-ROM sequel of this game fool you-- Captain Blood became an instant classic when it was first released for the Atari ST. Similar to many other sci-fi classics such as Elite and Starflight, this game is hard to pigeonhole: it weaves action, adventure, and strategy elements into a cohesive whole.
In Exxos' typical how-did-they-think-of-this plot, your task is to find and destroy five 'Numbers' (i.e. clones of yourself) from which you will suck bodily fluid to survive. The hallmark of this game is the unique alien language (which you must learn) and compelling setting.
The adventure portion is non-linear, as there are many randomly-generated planets to explore. The interface takes a while getting used to, so make sure you read the manual carefully. Highly recommended to anyone who is looking for a challenging and thoroughly original space adventure.

i am 52 now . this was my favorite game for amstrad cpc6128 . PERFECT!!!!
For those who didn't know at that time (like me), Captain Blood is part of a trilogy, the Blood trilogy. These are the games from the trilogy: Captain Blood (1988) (Atari ST, Amiga, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, PC DOS), Commander Blood (1994) (PC DOS) (relaunched by Microids in 2020 for PC Windows), and Big Bug Bang: Le Retour de Commander Blood (1996) (The Return of Commander Blood aka Commander Blood 2) (PC Windows) (this one had a French only version). Back in the day, I only had played Captain Blood on ZX Spectrum and later when I saw a CD-ROM FMV trailer of Commander Blood, I though it was a remake not a sequel, and to be honest, by the trailer it looked goofy and silly for children, instead of a serious mature scifi game like the original. But now I am open to try this trilogy with other point of view.

Oooohhhhh the pain.
I am 57 and have had problems with hemorrhoids for years. It was getting to where I was spending two weeks out of the month on the can due to constipation from opiate medication I have to take. Then one week where I use the prep H to push the roids back into place. I got refered to a surgeon recently and he said I had a bad case and set me up for surgery. They decided to do a colenistimy (colon probe. where I guess they pump you full of air and put a tube all the way up). I did not know that it was that extensive or I might of gone without it..at least not with this surgery. I was told afterwards that I had some of the largest they had seen. Also the colen test showed some polups they had to burn out. They did not look cancerous.
I had trouble gettin cleaned out prior to surgery due to the pain and the opiates. I awoke after 2 hours of surgery. I had packing in me and was told to go home, take a bath, and they would come out. I had terriable cramps and gut pain, prostate pain, and severe anus pain. I have lots of stitches down there. I was leaking blood everywhere. I took several baths and finally the packing came out. I took stool softeners and drank a lot. Finally the first meal, or what was left over from before, came out in the bath. I didnt have a full bowel push because of the pain but a bunch of crap, in small strings, some packing, and a huge amount of blood came out. I would say a pint.
One the third day I had an involentary bowell push but came up empty. I forced a bowel movement and produced a large pile of soft serve crap which was full of blood. It becomes a real fight to live. I have some blood a fecal leakage which I clean up each time with a bath or a soaking wet warm wash cloth. Then I fold a washcloth in half and put in between my swollen cheeks until dry. They shave you down there and the stubble that grows back is very painful to the opposite side. I have never felt such pain. Each day has been a little better except for the third in which I was worse.
If you dont hear from me I am ok... or really bad.
This game has also been released on the Atari 8-bit. I should know - I have it. The game did NOT transition well to the Amiga (from the 8-bit), IMHO.
Deusmundi is right. The arch of Captain Blood is a french game, developped by Exxos. So US and Minscape are not a part of the story.
Sorry but I think it's a french game ! Not US !
only 2 of the above screenshots are from the MS-DOS version, the other ones appear to be the original Atari ST version
