This follow-up of sorts to Mad TV (designed by the same designer) is based on the same engine and look, but unfortunately it lacks the charm and wit that make Mad TV an underground classic.
This time instead of a hapless TV reporter in love, you are a gangster wannabe in love who must amass fame and fortune by nefarious means to achieve his heart's desire. Recruit thugs, plan shootouts, and more in this unique game that doesn't live up to Mad TV, but comes close at times.

How to get this to work:
1. Download the full CD version above
2. Run install.exe and install the game in some directory (Maximal config)
3. Place the CD files into a folder called "CD"
4. Place the CD folder to where you installed the game.
5. Create a file dosbox.conf in the game folder. Put this in there:
[autoexec]
mount D CD -t cdrom
6. Run CDSETUP.EXE and autoconfigure sound with SoundBlaster
7. Execute the adult patch which will overwrite the files.
8. Run DIME.BAT
9. Quick final step before you play is to learn German.
10. Done
I have a pre-installed version here to save you time: https://mega.nz/file/bYVUjJaY#OkEhvd8IZ7kV6gcwGchthafZMD-HWCMXRZDKnTcA_2k
The CD version on offer here is the 1.3 version, where the adult patch is 1.2 so there's a risk that causes issues.... ? But starting the game, and everything works, all sounds and voices, speech works. Seems fine.
Here is the infamous adult patch: https://www.patches-scrolls.de/patch/1274/7/
it unlocks something with "Metal-Anti-Jodella" in the game (untested).
The patch was only available on disk by mail order at Starbyte via age verification.
Aftermarket versions (from magazine CDs) higher than 1.0x (1.3.USK in "Starbyte Collection") may not work with that lower version patch. It is probably intended for initial "1.0.USK" only. (The USK versions are probably all censored while the non USK versions are not)
For further infos and fixes see comments here: https://archive.org/details/msdos_Dime_City_1995
- The 2 MB archive contains something that is called an English Beta version, which is actually not properly working.
- CFG Fix for the German 10MB rip version (also diable speech sound in the main menu to avoid program crash)
Contains full release I assume: https://archive.org/details/starbyte-collection
Download the game
Unzip
Edit the file DIME.CFG
Replace # with the gamepath
The German version will start
It will crash for answering the secretary cause the directory SPEECH is missing.
I cannot get sound to work in game. Sound works in the setup/test for both digital and Midi.. but the game is silent.
works with dosbox (with sound) without any configuration, great! Thank you!!
The game didn't run at first either for me. I tried running it with dos4gw dime.cde and that worked. After that the dime.bat and run.bat worked too. Guess it had to create one file first for the rest to work.
doesn`t work!!!
I try to run it with D-Fend Reloaded (run.bat as mainfile)
english version starts but seems to be a not playable beta of the game.
german version simply doesn't start
RUNAWAY, what do u mean edit the CFG file? edit it how?
BY ERROR EDIT THE CFG FILE!
For english run the RUN.BAT select eng or german ;-)
Is there a way to make it english?
if I try to open the german version:
(H: OK F: cdstdfnc.cpp L: 00554)
ERROR ( 0:FILE COULD NOT BE OPENED.)
#RES\RES\DIMEMAIN.CDR
(H: OK F: cdstdfnc.cpp L: 00117) HEAP End memory: 10498016
(H: OK F: cdstdfnc.cpp L: 00118) XMS End memory: 14848000
??
