A fun RPG with lots of neat arcade sequences (e.g. horseback riding, lockpicking, arena fights), this game once again proves that Westwood didn't become one of the greatest computer game companies from sheer luck.
Although not a full-fledged RPG, it's a fun diversion set in the D&D universe. You'd have to be somewhat good at action games though, since you'll definitely need reflexes for this one. Aside from vibrant graphics and many sub-plot for each character class, the lock-picking interface in this game is the best I've seen. Thumbs up!

I LOVE THIS GAME.
okay for those of you at a loss, yes you DO need the code wheel. Just do a search online for it. (: it's out there, everywhere so is the original documentation for the game, for all the games on this site actually. for hillsfar just search "hillsfar code wheel"
Probably the best of the AD&D games in my opinion. I had this for Atari ST.
I wasn't expecting too much but it's a pretty fun game once you get into it. I didn't read the manual - just jumped right in and ended up breaking most of my lockpicks while trying to figure out the puzzle subgame (and then resorted to forcing chests open until I found a Knock ring...) The guards *can* be outrun with keyboard, but you have to rapidly press/depress the arrow keys rather than hold them down. Also you can fool them into traps, or even jump into teleport trap yourself if you're surrounded next to one.
For me this game seemed to run pretty good at 600 dosbox cycles (about twice what I normally use for the really old CGA games). It didn't ask any copy protection password, but then again I never made it to a guild, so dunno...
Yes, I got the CodeWheel with the original game :-)))
May be I could scan it and post it for to print out...
I had a friend who had the code wheel. One of the answers is "forest" so I just keep entering that until it works.
Does anyone have the code wheel? Otherwise... how are you playing?
Believe it or not, this game was rushed out the door only halfway finished. The fact that it doesn't seem to crash ever is a testament to the coding skills of the guys at Westwood. Would serve them well for Command & Conquer, except for the 5th mission bug that crashes the game unless you cheat and give your troops advanced long range weapons.

is the code wheel is necessary? i had problems at guild?
I loved this Game back in 89
one of the few games that you can Import your characters from other SSI Games like:: Pool of radius or Curse of the Azure Bonds
Much like what the Game :: Bards Tale ( EA Games ) did as you can Import Ultima III Characters from a Origin
so innovative back in 1989, I loved this when I was a kid
still fun to play
