No doubt one of the most controversial games ever made, JFK Reloaded is a shareware game made by a Scottish company called Traffic Management that lets you recreate the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
Released on the 41st anniversary of the assassination in 2004, the game not surprisingly provoked a huge public backlash ranging from Ted Kennedy (who called it "despicable") to scores of media criticisms. Perhaps due to intense backlash, the game was removed from circulation in 2005, and the $9.99 shareware game is no longer sold or supported.
Let me say here first that I was concerned about whether this 40-year-old event is still 'fresh enough' in the minds of Americans for them to find the game offensive - that's why I asked people's opinions about whether they think it's a good idea to upload the full version before doing so. Anyone who finds such games offensive is advised to stop reading now. While I do find the game morally questionable, the designers deserve credits for shying away from focusing on pure "shock value" (which would be extremely easy to do, given the circumstances) - focusing instead on the physics behind the vent.
The 'official goal' of JFK Reloaded according to Traffic is "...to debunk assassination conspiracy theories by buttressing the Warren Commission's conclusion that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone and fired only three bullets." Accordingly, the game places you in the exact spot that Oswald stood, and offers you the chance to re-create his three shots (the last of which was the one that caused "the fatal wound"). The perfect score of 1,000 is awarded if you can replicate the three bullets' trajectories perfectly. You can replay as many times as you want.
As a simulation, JFK Reloaded is quite good: no matter how I shoot, I see bullets behave in ways that one would expect: smashing glasses, bouncing off the limo, etc. The graphics, while not state-of-the-art, is more than adequate: all passengers of the fateful limo, from JFK to his wife, driver and everyone else, are recognizable. After the event, you get a ballistics reports that tell you how your bullets traveled, and how closely they match Oswald's shots.
As a game, JFK Reloaded falls short mostly because its objective and context are far too narrow: your only objective is to recreate that tragedy. And no matter how you try to cloak it, the game's moral dimension still looms large and has a real impact; I am not American, yet I still felt my heart skip a beat when looking through the rifle scope in the game, seeing JFK's face squarely in the crosshairs.
For conspiracy buffs, though, it is an interesting 'tool' that tries to prove the feasibility of the 'magic bullet' theory, and therefore they are probably the only ones who will have 'fun' with this game that we can all do without. The 'educational value' of the game, in my opinion, is questionable, but it does try to do more than simply shock and titillate. Preserved on this site for historical value as 'abandonware' - proceed at your own risk.

Can anyone confirm this? I remember an image on the Internet which looked like a still from this game but recreating Jack Ruby shooting Lee Oswald in the Dallas Police Basement. The shooting was clearly based on Robert H. Jackson's famous still picture of Ruby shooting Oswald. It makes me wonder if there was originally an additional game chapter where you can control Jack Ruby shooting Lee Oswald. Can anyone confirm this?

I am neither pro lone gunman or pro conspiracy in regards to JFK controversy but I’m surprised none of the modded shooting locations have made a “Prayer Man” position. Prayer Man was an unidentified man who was filmed by Dave Wiegman, Jr., of NBC, and James Darnell of WBAP-TV, standing on the Depository front steps during the JFK assassination; referred to as "prayer man", some believe it was Lee Harvey Oswald.
I think there would be less controversy if the historical figure you have to kill was Osama Bin Laden. If it had been "Osama Reloaded", there would be less controversy than what they did here.

Love this game, really helped me in my other activities! And also would recommend the original 1962 version.
I think the devs were totally trolling, and that this "sim" has no real redeeming value other than pure entertainment. That said, it did provoke a lot of controversy at the time, and thus I am happy that it has been preserved, if for no other reason than to one day prove that it did in fact exist. I did play it almost 20 years ago, and although it was mildly amusing in a morbid sort of way, it just wasn't much fun beyond that. I think that someone needs to re-make this someday.

@tuperroconchancletas, maxsecure isn't a virus, it's one of the antivirus vendors virustotal uses to scan files, and in this case it flagged the game as malicious. however, virustotal is prone to false positives, meaning it says something's malicious when it really isn't. oftentimes if only one or two obscure vendors flag it then in general it's most likely a false positive and is therefore actually safe.
I putted the .rar in virus total and it says it got a trojan called maxsecurity, do you have the same?
wendigoon talked about this game in one of his iceberg videos. apparently there was a massive cash prize available for anyone who was able to perfectly recreate the JFK shooting. apparently, nobody's ever been able to do it ,,,

All the years of public denunciation against this - I never knew about any of it until 5 minutes before posting couple days ago! I'm quite disheartened to hear Edward Kennedy called it despicable! Well yeah if WOULD be if the intent went that way, and I can't help but feel for EK grieving over his brother John F Kennedy getting assassinated.

I might be the spiritual father of this, and its intention was only to work out trajectories and virtual ballistics in order to try yet again a new method to understand why things looked like they did on that Zap video.
Years ago I woke up and the TV had been left on, and 3 or 4 times in a row I'd look at the TV right at the moment Kennedy was getting the head shot, and as I stood there stunned, it turned out to be a mystery show, wondering out loud about that day in Dallas.
I brought this topic up at a pretty popular board called Audioland and some games guys who spent the rest of their time working out 3D Studio Max, Maya and all those game makers eons ago.
If indeed this was my brainchild, to answer the question, crap like this started off as good intentions. I probably knew the game developers 4 years before this was public, but my loyalties still appreciate the game's official author and the good intentions that we all agree here eventually went south.
I absolutely won't have those bits and bytes on my computer because it's "evil".
Also what this "game" (I called it an historical sim) should do, is anytime your cross hairs intersect with any person who isn't a target, a cartoon should appear that says:
"excuse me, hi there, Lee Harvey Oswald here. You know people don't like me, but there's one thing I'd NEVER DO! You want to know what that is? WHAT YOU ARE DOING" LOL

Handy tip: The "magic bullet" isnt a thing.
It was MADE UP for the movie JFK. There is no pausing, turning or weird goings on. The bullets path is perfectly normal.

Having played this when it was released, it's interesting to run across it again. People were pretty upset when this first showed up but honestly it's a really interesting educational tool and I took it as such at the time, as I think a lot of other people did. Looking at it as a simulator and not a game is fairly important, but I doubt most people see any distinction, especially when this particular subject is involved.
