The right tactic for me is a 3-5-2 with no wingers.
Look out for a youth player named Jagroop. Had him score close to 1.000 goals in his career, and 100 in a season.

I am just wondering if anybody knows if there is a patch that allows your balance to go over 100 million? Been playing this game since it came out, but I never found a way to get over that limit.

I loved this game. Played it avidly back in the day. Loved that you could increase your ground capacity every season if your board approved.

is the urban legend that this game was used as basis for championship manager series true?

So... I played one-nil back in the day - it came free on one of those giant bundle of x games of dubious reputation. Anyway, enjoyed the game immensely at the time and spent quite a few hours trying to find the next wonderkid.
For those asking about a sequel or a re-do, I find Football Manager to more than fit the bill. Yes, it is much more detailed, but you can really play the game however you wish.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Actually, there is even an improved version called 2-0. If you’re interested, you can play it in your browser on www.lukesplace.net/games/2-0
Seriously, I loved it, still play it. I’d love to find the developers, they were from Livingston in Scotland, near where I come from!

Can someone help me figure out how to install this on Windows 10? I get messages saying that it's not compatible with 64-bit versions of Windows, and another saying 'this app can't run on your PC'. Never had this problem back in the early 90s....

What memories!. I played a lot of time ascending with Southport from the 4th to the Premier. I miss manager games with the tactical system and the degree of realism that this game had. Games like this, with the update of doing it online, would be unbeatable. Currently I play the Sokker, and the Ultimate manager (missing).

I still play this game a lot. I've got almost 100 championships in the Super League with Plymouth. It's all in playing the right tactic, and buying young players before they become valuable, and selling before they drop.
Had a player scoring 63 goals in one season too!
The 1-095 version is the best.

Bought this game in about 1993 from an ad in the back of World Soccer magazine. "Simplistic brilliance" was my mate's verdict. I played it constantly for about 6 years, until my PC died. This game seems to have positively influenced the direction taken by the Championship Manager and Football Manager series. I wrote to the programmers with some suggestions for improvements and alternative versions of the game - the J.League was starting up then and I wanted a version devoted to it. They wrote back - fobbed me off a bit, of course, but thanked me for taking an interest.

Outstanding game. Wasted many an hour trying to move fourth-division sides up the ladder.

This is a genius game. Incidentally, there is an improved, 1994 version of this game, which is what I actually play.
I wish someone would do a re-do on this. As Trepie said, pity it's only a two-player game. That having said, I have an ongoing duo campaign with someone to this very day at all times.

Probably the best soccer management game I ever played. Pity it's only 2 players.
