After some maintenance today (monday, 9 october), the website is now again up and running, but the game fails to load.
Plz take a look at it again.

It works, (in my Laptops has), but Crashes, Please do something about it I´d even buy it if it would work in any ways to play.
I can Maybe once a year get My space shuttle into half way done before it crashes. once i got it off and then crashed I did not mind that:))) Sometimes it crashes before year 1900.
Please, Please do something about it.

I laugh at the people who think part of the game is a 'quiz'. The questions are there to check you have a legitimate copy of the game which would include the handbook - in which all the answers are given.

IMHO: if you didn't memorize the quiz/tech tree 30 years ago you don't deserve the game now.

The quiz part is shit. I don't know my history that well and I am hust to dumb. I JUST WANT TO PLAY MY CIVILIZATION.

Works perfectly well when I play online through my PC. I had problems at first and If you are having them too, this may help. For me, the game kept reverting to a DOS screen before It was fully loaded. The screen showed C:\CIV, and It wouldn't accept any input, so I was left with a useless DOS screen. The solution will appear a bit strange, I can understand that - but It solves the problem! Trust this old git!
Whenever the opening options give you a numbered choice, choose No.1.....that's all there Is to It! It means, of course, that you have to play without sounds but, on a game of this type, It really makes no difference! (I normally listen to my fave music through my headphones when playing these kind of games, anyway, as I'm sure most retro-gamers do!). For what It's worth, I think It's the sound options which are causing the problem. Options 2 - 6 are all obsolete sound hardware & drivers, so I'm pretty sure that our PC or other hardware gets 'locked up' because they're searching for these non-existent drivers. This Is only a personal view and I may be completely wrong, but please, If you're having problems playing this game online, first try loading with "1. No Sound" and If this alone fails to work, choose the same number one for each (numbered) option. GOOD LUCK and I hope this helps! Please comment If this helps (and feel free to 'shout' at me If It doesn't)!

Unfortunately I have a problem with the game. There is a system which asks to answer questions (I imagine that it is used to avoid illegal copies) .. I can answer correctly, then there is a message wondering where the game is in my computer and from there the game is over and I have to restart everything. An idea ?

it´s freezing after a (long) while for me, too.

this game works perfectly for me, chrome browser, start, click, 1-1-1, click, customize world, every choice is ok, but I prefer small landmass-cold-wet-5 billion years, click, now you get the intro which can't be skipped really, I click and press space multiple times, get something to drink and when I come back choose difficulty and how many opponents, now you are ingame, then I click away the 2 messages you get about the settlers, file-options-uncheck everything except last one is for getting palace if citizens are pleased with you. Animations sometimes causes crash, thats why uncheck.
Great game takes me back a long time, windows 3.11 no internet ballmouse.

It's still crashing. Can those who say it's working, tell me what game they're playing - (ie Tribe, difficulty level etc). All the ones I've tried, freeze about an hour in.

Great game. Except the emulator craps out usually around the year 1400-1500 due to data overflow/locking up. Save often, so otherwise you don't lose your progress. And yes, you can save on here.

Hey Terro.. just type CIV 1 Manual into Google you can see all the techs & how you get them & will Abe able to answer the question easily.

I hate the Civilisation Quiz. If you are wrong, you lose al your elements. Is there a way to ignore this, or is there a page with al the sollutions?

I cannot get this to download (read install) properly on a windows system. Any advice from anyone?

Uncheck in the option: Instant advice, Autosave and Animations. After this I can finally enjoy the game without freeze.

To fix the game freeze during production, go to Options and uncheck the advice option when you start the game.

Sometimes when you go to change production the game freezes when the military adviser suggest a production. You cannot unfreeze the game and have to restart. VERY frustrating.

Is there anyway to retrieve the saved game I was playing online and use it for the downloaded version?

The game cursor did not work on my computer either, until I found these settings, for perfect results:
- Game only works in FULLSCREEN mode (blue menu on top of the screen)
- only works with the MOUSE (not a stylus)
- I block the SHIFT key, to allow shortcut with the keyboard (ie: B for build a new city, R for build road, F for fortify, etc.)
- At the beginning of the game (yellow letters on black background), press 1, 1, 1 for each question.

top game worth playing accept theres no save so you cant leave game and come back later real shame i would love to play this game after 20 years a real nostragia was addicted in its day have played civ till 3 or 4 cant remember till life got in the way.

great game works on chrome book if you select mouse and keyboard and you can slightly adjust the mouse to click on cites and you use alt+one of the leters that opens up the sub menu to access stuff like Game and Orders.

wrote this comment somewhere else probably before I hit play browser game Have a Samsung Chromebook and can't get cursor to work. Tried keyboard only nd cannot find keyboard command to let me get into my city to change or buy what it is working on so I keep spewing out militia until 1500AD and my city is reduced and so the program goe in on its own
