Apple released the Apple II in 1977, and it stayed in wide use through the 1980s, especially in American homes and schools.
Its library seeded whole genres: the role-playing of Ultima and Wizardry, the action of Karateka and Prince of Persia, and the schoolroom staple Oregon Trail.
AppleWin and other emulators run Apple II disks on modern hardware.
