Notice the game’s title screen copyright: “(c)1933” — Is that a clever nod to archaeologist and anthropologist, Zelia Maria Magdalena Nuttall (6 September 1857 – 12 April 1933)? ;-)

I’ve been waiting to try this game for myself since boarding school, 1984! LOL. I have memories in 9th grade of watching schoolmates at Mercersburg Academy play it on an Apple II in an empty classroom on the weekends. These types of games were such a novelty back then. One student made a copy for me on an ‘Elephant’ 5 1/4” diskette of the era; but it was always hit or miss with those - after several expectant minutes, mine would never load beyond a partial title screen! An early lesson, and some poetic justice, I suppose, for seeking a pirated copy. I don’t see the giant squid in the sample screens; please tell me there’s a giant squid with undulating tentacles. That was so thrilling to view in the Apple II’s streaming color motion graphics. Ah, the memories... Thanks. Now don’t mind if I do help myself to an Abandonware copy. ;-)

Easter egg when you first start the game. 1. Before going down the stairs. 2. Crouch and go left. 3. Place dynamite at the wall. 4. It will fall to bottom of screen. 5. When you stand up, the dynamite explodes. 6. Go down the stairs, and you will find yourself on the bottom-most level.

loved this game! My mom found a glitch, where if you crawl up on something, like a pile of skulls, and crawled off... you would fall through the floor. Got out of a few traps that way. ;-)

Apple II had pink and green and white graphics. The weird beast creature noise, I can still remember the sound haha. That meant get the hell out of the room!

Is Paul Stephenson still around? People like John Romero (of id software fame) are looking for him.
FWIW, I luuuuved Aztec and also Swashbuckler back in the day. Great games that were really amazing to be possible on a machine as limited as the Apple II.

My uncle Paul Stephenson designed this game in the 80s. He was one of the most unique people I've ever known. Physicist in Louisiana who designed his own home, with the skeleton in the shape of a geodesic dome. Very fun game, hard though. Released closely with Indiana Jones!
