Catan: Das Kartenspiel

Never mind, das Problem ist behoben. Danke für die vielen Anleitungen und Patches!Echt toll, dass man auch heute noch das "alte" Siedler Kartenspiel am PC spielen kann.

Hi, um das Spiel auf Windows 10 flüssig spielen zu können, habe ich Gottfrieds Anleitung vom 16. Februar 2024 befolgt. Das Spiel läuft jetzt flüssig, allerdings kann ich im Einzelspieler-Modus die Maus nicht mehr ganz nach unten ziehen. Das Feld "Weiter" oder "X" ganz unten kann ich deshalb nicht mehr anklicken.

Was kann ich tun, um das Problem zu lösen?

1) Go to this website and install flatpak and add flathub as repository: https://flatpak.org/setup/Ubuntu
2) Start the app Software
3) Search Lutris and install it by clicking on the button
4) Start Lutris and add a game by clicking on the "+" in the upper left corner
5) Select "Install a Windows games from an executable"
6) Select the Autorun.exe from the ISO / CD (or the installation exe) and finish the installation
7) The game is installed in your home directory in your home-folder Games/CatanCardGame/drive_c/ ...
8) Right click on the game in Lutris and configure it: use Wine as a Starter (ideally wine-ge or GE Proton that ship with Lutris, no need to install wine on the system). On the Starter tab activate DgVoodoo2. On the game preferences tab add the file Catan_ks.exe as executable (if you chose the upgrade files once you can update the game)
10) Click on Play and have fun!
Network games work out of the box

Playing the game on Linux is even easier since Lutris can be installed via the app store flathub.
Since playing on Windows 10 or 11 is a nightmare I switched to Linux for older Windows-Games. It works out of the box and is much faster. Here is the how-to for Ubuntu.

Gegen den Computer kannst du nur das Basis-Set spielen. Gegen einen anderen Menschen im LAN kannst du die Turnier-Decks spielen, die du im Editor auch selbst erstellen kannst.

is it only playable with Basic Set or cann i change card types ingame?

Kann ich nur das Basisspiel spielen oder gibt es eine Möglichkeit, die Themensets zu aktivieren? Im Deckeditor sind ja zumindest alle Sets aufgeführt

I realised that the directdraw-wrapper DDrawCompat might be too slow on certain machines or for multiplayer games.

So here is a detailed step by step installation guide for Windows 10 and 11 with the directdraw-wrapper DXGL:
1) Download the ISO-file from this Website, double click on it. Install the game.
2) Download the patch-file from this website, unpack it and double click on "catan-das_kartenspiel_upgrade_01.exe" (this upgrade includes all other patches)
3) Go to the folder where you installed the game and right click on "Catan_ks.exe", go to "Compatibility" and activate the compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2
4) Download the directdraw-wrapper "DXGL": https://dxgl.org/download/DXGL-0.5.22-win32.exe Install it. If you have issues during installation deselect "Fix DDraw COM..." and install only "DXGL Components". VC redist should be installed automatically. If not download it from this website and install it: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x86.exe
5) Start DXGL and click on "Add" in the left bottom corner and select Catan_ks.exe.
6) Start the game by double clicking Catan_ks.exe

On some machines I had issues with DXGL and I had to use DXGL-0.5.19-win32 and VC redist 15-19 x86.

Hi welchen patch meinst du? den hier verfügbaren? Da sind ja mehrere enthalten.
da finde ich keine DXGL. Kannst du mir bitte weiterhelfen.

du musst das Spiel installieren, dann den Patch, dann DXGL. DXGL öffnen, dort die Datei catan_ks.exe hinzufügen und DXGL wieder schließen. Dann Rechtsklick auf catan_ks.exe und bei Kompatibilitätsmodus Windows XP SP 2 einstellen. Dann funktioniert das Spiel. Bei mir geht dieser Vorgang unter Windows 10 und 11.

Alles probiert kann es nicht spielen auch nicht mit dxgl vllt kann mir ja jemand helfen danke schon mal im vorraus.

If you have problems to play it under Windows 10 (really slow) install DXGL and add catan_ks.exe to it and then right click on catan_ks.exe and activate the compatibility mode (Windows XP). Then the game runs normally.
