was able to get this running. but because it couldn't load the help video so i can learn how to ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME. I'm kinda boned

After playing certain new cards like Civic Wayfinder the game closes itself. At least on duel, gauntlet and sealed. Didn't try on Shandalar.
I'm playing on Windows 11. Already tried the rip and the iso version, also applied the patch and it didn't work for me. Tried reloading the autosave and it closes again.
You can play with many cards that don't close the game but if the AI have those conflictive cards it will crash too.
Downloaded it. Extracted it. Magic.exe gives me an error any time I try to launch it.
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142).
After winning a duel in this instance I'm able to choose a duplicate card. Doesn't show the message to confirm the card.

Ripped version worked perfectly on Windows 11 as of 10/12/2024. Just extract the files anywhere (I just put the whole folder onto my desktop) and double-click Magic.exe.
The .ISO version installs well with WinCDEmu (good program). Be sure to run in XP service pack 2 or it will be bugged out.

I'm having a weird bug. It was all normal until yesterday, then today all of a sudden I starded playing the duels and the cars have all the text missing. I tried on another PC and it's working just fine, in this one seems to be the issue. Anyone has any idea of what should I do?
The game works fine on Win11 here in 2024, but only the ISO version (download a mount program and install it . I then used the update on the place where the game was installed and this works perfect). the rip version just crashes when trying to edit decks and so on
No clue what the others are talking about, tried the ripped download on Win11 and it just worked.
OK forget my previous post... It's not playable in Win 7 nor 10... As mentioned before Shandalar and also Deck (building) does not work, the game just exits. After some playtestng of the Duel part that boots and seem to work at first it became quickly clear that loads of cards are broken. (for example land tax, Fireball), these spend the mana but have no effect whatsoever). So until I find a version out there that does work on more present day systems (slim chance that ever happens), it's back to vintage computing on a 'in time' machine for this one...
have the original bigboxes but wanted to play it again after all those years so i downed this version and hey it works on a windows 7 laptop and even on my windows 10 Pc. Thats the solo duel bit were You play against. Shandalar for one reason or another starts up ok (did not playtest it yet) but only in a small screen top left corner of the screen (that's why). Any fixes for this one is aware off ???
what am i supposed to do with any of this, this is not playable
Does untapping paralyse work? Even when i put stop on upkeep phase, i do not get chance pay for untapping, the card is innactive.
the only card that doesn't play right when I play is Sorcerer Queen. The card says "Target creature IS 0/2 until end of turn". What happens is target creature gains +0/+2. Other than that, I love the game!
Again a weird non exe file...

to see the extra creatures in the duel window just drag the little white mouse in the center ;)
Got the game working alright. Does anyone know what to do when there are more than 5 creatures attacking in the combat window? The screen simply cuts them off so you can't even see them all, much less assign blockers. I can minimize & recall the window, but not see the far right side in when one side attacks after a large buildup.
you can buy cards just type y for yes and n for no when u click on what card u want
game may crash at start dont go into a town right away and check your deck instead do a battle or save game and come back into game should be better
Anyone else here having issue with "buying cards" in the game? I go to the towns and can get to the buying area but no way to purchase them. just thought I would ask. Still fun to play!

why is the download soooo slow
Keeps crashing right at start. can't find Dave's Extra Cool Timer
I've been trying to get it to work properly but no luck. I wish I could, I loved this damn game. Didn't think that I'd ever find it again. I can't figure out how to change the resolution and the most I get out of it is like 3-4 mins. As soon as I try to change the deck in Shandalar it crashes, but runs the deck editor standalone just fine.
Gonna start reading around and see what I can find. Any help is appreciated.

Game runs on 1/4 of the screen when you leave start screen and enter Shandalar.
Great Game. Go for easy wins Decks or else Computer will have too much to think and crash =)
I´m having a problem with the deck edit during play. I can´t see any cards beside the cars on the deck. Someone know how to fix it?

Will this work on an Android device? This was one of my all time favorite games and I would love to be able to play on the go.

Do you have this version for a MacBook Pro? I used to play on a PC in highschool on 1998, I Love this game, this version.
Note that the zipped folder for this game has NTFS encryption flags enabled. when you unzip it, your PC will encrypt the folder. It might be better to remove the encryption so that no user get's freaked out when their system starts recommending backing up encryption keys.
There was a bug/feature in this game, if you set up an auto-pause during the opponent's Upkeep step, you can tap *their* lands, then they can't do anything with them and they take mana burn. Just cheese your way through the whole game, if ya like!
