Chu-Teng

Windows 3.x - 1995
Also available on: Mac

Chu-Teng [中天] is a point and click adventure game developed by OutSide Directors Company. It is the sequel of Eastern Mind: The Lost Souls of Tong Nou. The story takes place some time after the first game; at the beginning of the game player encounters Nanshu, who explains the story. Nanshu tells he was set to guard Chu-Teng, but the darkness entity named Chu-In broke him into pieces. Nanshu called for help, and found Rin, and one of his eyes turned into a transportation device, while his ears became a tablet for Rin to use. Rin then sets off for Chu-Teng.

Chu-Teng released in Japan for the Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows in October 1995, but before 2013 it has been considered as "lost media" due to its rarity, even the developers of the game didn't have a copy of it. Fortunately, in 2013 one of fans of the game found it and uploaded the ISO image of the original Japanese CD on 4chan. Finally, in 2020, seven years after, another fan made a full English translation of the game, so now all fans of the first game and Osamu Sato works can play it

How to Play

Windows 3.x

For technical reasons, the proper work of the English version of the game is guaranteed only on Japanese version of Windows 3.1. But not necessary to install it - you can just download ISO image of it and emulate through DOSBox.

After you emulated the OS - open the ISO of the game and click on chuteng.exe, the game works directly from the disc. Also, it is recommended to have installed QuickTime utility for correct work of the game, it can be installed from ctsetup.exe on the disc. The "cycles" indicator is recommended to be set around 30000 for the main game and 5000 in combat episodes.

Mac

Chu-Teng requires a Macintosh computer with a 68030 processor or higher to operate. The game works on modern systems with Basilisk II and SheepShaver emulators, install the latest versions if you're using 64-bit OS. If the game runs too fast - use MemoryHacking or similar utility that have forced slowdown options. In example: when you run mhs.exe, open the process of your emulator through the “File” menu, open “SpeedHack” in the “Tools” menu and set the “Denominator” value to 2, 3 or 4, etc., depending on the actual speed of your processor.
