Easily the best astronomy software ever until its later versions and Maris' Redshift 3, Dance of the Planets was recommended by my astronomy professor.
It's a surprisingly versatile program, given its small size, that is capable of simulating everything from lunar phases to comet paths. Animations of planets are well-done, and the huge database of sky objects make for excellent star maps to take with you for real stargazing sessions.
Highly recommended for aspiring astronomers.

The link that Kingmaker shared doesn't seem to work anymore and you can only seem to find second hand copies.
It seems this program is not abandonware and is still sold by ARC Science (now Omniglobe):

Anyone got version 2.7?
A great serious astronomy program. It requires some skill in using and displaying the orbits of the planets, asteroids and comets, but once you start to handle the program, it is very adictive.
