Eco-Saurus is an excellent edutainment title from First Byte. Designed to teach kids about environmental conservation, you join friendly dinosaur Zug as an Environmental Conservation Official (E.C.O.) on a mission to save Eco Island and rescue his alien friend M-Kar. By conserving energy and collecting recyclable materials from local inhabitants, you will help restore Eco Island, rebuild M-Kar's spacecraft, and provide enough power to fuel his flight home.
The game is very easy to learn: just use the mouse to pick up the garbage on each screen and puts them in the right recycle bin (or just throw the trash away if it's non-recycleable). You will meet many colorful inhabitants of Eco Island, each of whom even can speak, albeit with the robotlike sound similar to Sound Blaster's early Dr. Sbaitso. Kids will be attracted by the fun gameplay, funny cartoon dinosaurs, and very nice VGA graphics.
The game could have used a more in-depth database, but as a title developed for youngsters (preschoolers and primary school level), Eco-Saurus has the right balance of education and fun to keep kids glued to the screen. Two thumbs up!

Ok, so the key to getting this thing to run in DOSBOX is you have to run INSTALL first... then when they give you option to Update the Sound nad Graphics settins, do that. Go through and pick soundblaster. Should set you on the right path.
This game does not run properly on this site, even after choosing the right file. Some sounds and voice overs don't work. Another abandonware site(I won't mention the name here) has this game running correctly.
WAH! I have been searching for this game for years!!!
can do you a step-by-step on how to get this game to run? I tried googling "run ex.bat" and it has no idea what I am talking about
Wow, I played this game in the early 90s on the family computer. I have been remembering it for a few years as the "dinosaur recycling game" (how great is google?) and even downloaded it in 2010 but didn't know how to play it. Last night I downloaded dosbox and have been playing old games since. I'm so happy right now!!! I remember it being a lot harder at the age of 8 haha. Thank you so much for providing this game!!! Also, it worked great, no hiccips, sound is original. I think there might be a little bit of sound missing from the beginning and end. I can't remember if there was music or not, but I don't think there was. Just type in 'ex' into your dosbox and you are ready to play!
where can i find the original floppy images i am building a old windows 95 VM and am trying like heck to get this to install i need to break the image up into the original floppy images any help would be great
thanks mike
Thanks, Admin, that worked! Not all of the sound effects I remember are playing, and the characters won't talk, but I can play the game all the way through. *whee* Still curious to see if all the sound will play on that old PC I mentioned. :D
You have to run "ex.bat" to make it work
Fingers crossed that it works! I have been searching for this game for YEARS
D-Fender/DosBox won't even play it. I can sucessfully add this to the DF gaming list, but the game crashes before it displays anything but a black screen.
I think the only hope for this one is waiting until I have a chance to take home the early '90s PC my family kept. I know the machine still works fine, so maybe this game will run in its natural habitat. :/ Vista sucks.
Tried to run this file, and like every other version of this game I've found, it freezes up during the intro movie where the spaceship is puttering around. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but I cant imagine what.
ECO-Saurus is an environmental game where you have to pick up any recyclable material, put it in the right bin, and recycle the materials into what is needed to help M-Kar rebuild his spaceship and get back to his planet. The materials are aluminum, glass, paper, plastic, and organic waste. Some characters have bonus materials such as an aluminum foil ball, a plastic pail, and even old paper scripts. You can even get bonus points for hearing a helpful hint about recycling, so be sure to talk to everyone--and everything!--you meet. Also, be sure to turn off all unnecessary electricity and running water, and watch out for the dastardly Mr. Bronto! He's the messiest character of all and can be quite a pest. He has a bonus item, too--a bag of trash. Keep talking to him until you get it. Happy recycling!
