@GWEENETH There's no problem running the game on Windows 10. It works with either of the two fix files. but when exiting, it gives the error 'major error! missing string: GPS_AUTOSAVEREPLAY' and the game crashes.

Since I can't update a comment, here's hopefully how to help you get the game running - copied from the very recently updated PCGamingWiki page:
Use dgVoodoo2 + gp500_win2k.exe - Install game and update1 to bring game to version 1.0.1185a - Download gp500_win2k.exe and place it in GP500's installation folder - Set gp500_win2k.exe to Windows 98/ME compatibility and 16-bit color mode - Download and setup dgVoodoo 2 - Unzip dgvoodoo_2.xx and copy dgVoodooCpl or dgVoodoosetup.exe from main folder, then D3D9.dll, which will allow 1920x1440 32bit, D3D8.dll, D3DImm.dll , and DDraw.dll files from the MS/x86 subfolder into GP500's installation folder - Run dgvoodoo.exe, configure General tab to have Full Screen with Stretched, Keep Aspect Ratio - On DirectX tab, set dgvoodoo virtual 3D card, 512mb, 1920x1440 resolution, Application Controlled State, and Fast Memory Access. Apply. - Run the game through gp500_win2k.exe
Notes: - It is possible you may need to set gp500_win2k.exe to Windows XP SP3 compatibility if the game crashes - dgvoodoo is not mandatory but it provides a smoother experience, though frame slowdown still takes place - There have been two .exe modifications made to allow the game to run on Vista or later operating systems. One is GP500Core2.exe and it can be run with Compatibility Mode to Windows 7 without further adjustments or dgvoodoo. Look up on Youtube "GP 500 Windows 10" for a user-provided full folder copy (not needing to be installed) of the game - Not necessary but replacing GP500.exe with a "noCD" .exe has no negative repercussion

Really solid game. Safedisc DRM will stop it from working on Windows 10 and all the cracks I tried caused a CTD at the end of a race. Easy to get it running on XP with nGlide, however.

Running it on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit using the Win2K fix, many thanks to whoever invested their time in that! I was nervous when it installed antique drivers DirectX6, etc., relieved when that didn't break anything.
