Jane's Combat Simulations: F-15

My grandfather was a Vietnam veteran who served as a mechanic in the Air Force. He bought this game when I was 10 or 11 and I got hooked. I've since grown and become a fighter jet enthusiast and we talk shop all the time.

I LOVE THIS GAME

I am have a problem where the keyboard keys do not work at all while flying, joystick works fine but any key on keyboard for the game does not work. What is disabling keys in game?

@Chugster Use nGlide. It "emulates" 3dfx and Glide wonderfully and lets you fiddle with a few settings to get the 4:3 aspect ratio.

Does anyone know how to get the in-flight graphics to run in 4:3 on a widescreen monitor?

I can get the menus running fine the the flight stuff is stretched

@Duvstep, I've never tried this with a keyboard, but I'm sure it's possible. You should be able to rebind the keys, and I believe the key bindings include both the flight controls and throttles. I would still highly recommend a joystick, such as a Logitech Extreme3D Pro. @Ice Man, monte el .mds/.mdf con Daemon Tools 3.47 bajo Windows 98, y la instalación debería ejecutarse. @DUVSTEP, you should be able to fly with the keyboard, though I can't recommend it. I have almost exclusively used a joystick. Any USB joystick, such as the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, should work fine. Consult the manual and key reference (also available as a PDF) for keyboard flight controls.

This is a fantastic simulation from early 1998, right before the launch of the 3Dfx Voodoo2. The levels of detail (training/qualification, tactics, mission planning, employment and applicable joint doctrine) were unprecedented for the time, and my friends and I (all now military officers) played this sim many times in our dorm rooms via multiplayer while in ROTC. Two of those friends of mine actually went to fly the F-15E. You will absolutely need the manual (which can be found as a PDF). This is best run under Windows 95/98/98SE using Daemon Tools v3.47 to mount the CD-ROM image. It *should* work fine under WIndows XP and Daemon Tools v4.46. I would also highly recommend finding a boxed copy (with the spiral-bound physical manual and reference card) from eBay, if able. It is a truly excellent thing to see in your bookcase.
