MGS 2 has been unplayable on Windows for several years, but in 2016 Alessio Di Giacomo, A.K.A. VFansss, released its own patch to fix everything. Read the wiki and get the patch from the github page.
Buy on Digital Stores
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance is available for a small price on the following website, and is no longer abandonware.

I miss the skateboard
The reason the GOG version was removed is due to the real world footage and yes its a dumb reason to remove it given when something is made it officially becomes a product of its time. its say to see these products now these days stripped away.
as a result any Modding for the game has been moved to the Master Collection HD Edition, same with MGS1. that said the Randomizer for MGS1 should still work with the GOG version.
as far as for MGS2 GOG.. well you might have to look elsewhere, where at im not saying. but i will say that i was lucky enough to buy it before it got removed. god bless game preservation even if its tied to my account...
anyways, if anyone is reading this im sorry MAW did not have the answer you're looking for but i hope this comment was worth something.
The version on steam is Sons of Liberty, not Substance. Also the game has not been put back up on GOG. This game should be put back up here.
It is official. This game will be back on Steam in October. Get it now while you still can!
its just an iso file how do i play it?
I heard this game might be relisted soon on GOG because some of the licensing issues have been resolved. So get this game while you still can!
The game just halts to a black screen. help
nvm i fixed it
How do I download the game? The setup file keeps crashing, I closed everything, I emptied my temp folder, and my internet's fine. Someone help me, I don't want to emulate this game since the performance is gonna get worse and I don't have a good pc.
We have some Konami intruders folks. They don't want you to play MGS2. They don't want you to know that Hideo already denounced Konami gulags in that game. They are also blocking the upload of the PC version of MGS3 because there are proof of their malpractices in the code of that game.
You don't belive me? Look at the comment below me. We have already 2 infiltrators. Download the game and play it. QUICK! You must witness the beauty of PS2 graphics Quinton Flynn naked ninja kicking Genoma Soldiers! Is the only way to understand the T R U T H.
And no. I am neither SOME MANDALORE GAMING SIMP nor OK MILLENIAL.
I AM BOTH
I AM A GAMER
I HAVE BEEN ALBERICH, LOGE, SIEGMUND, BRÜNHILDE, SIEGFRIED... and ISH, I guess. Don't know. Ring is confusing.
alsoalsoalso MAKE CIVVIE11 FUNNY AGAIN.
And play Metal Gear Solid 2. ... Yeh.
Once again, the game has been abandoned
Bring back download.
Can you make the game available here please? I would kindly buy it on GOG, but the game was took down by Konami.
Game's off from gog, needs to be relisted here!
C'mon! Re-upload this game!
Please reupload :( can't get it anymore on gog.
So this game was removed by konami from GOG and all digital stores "temporarily" due to Licensing issue. This was in November. Its now June, its been like 7 months now. I think this game should be reuploaded onto myabandonware. Jesus thanks Konami it got uploaded to GOG for like 1 year before being taken down again. Nice work Konami realll nice.
It's not on GoG. Seems abandoned to me.
Hey, since this game isn't listed on GoG anymore, can it be put back on here?
GOG pulled this one. Should be reuploaded here, as it has been some years now.
Delisted from sale again, even on GOG.
As of today, every version of Metal Gear Solid 2 (and 3) got pulled from all digital stores due to copyright issues. I don't know if it counts as abandonware now.
@Lowry65: We don't need to worry about PAL or NTSC WITH PC games ;p
Be warned that this is the PAL version
Bro what kind of logic is this? why are you telling me that i should buy the game on Ps3 (a console released 14 years ago) that i don't have when i'm looking for the PC version that's an actual abandonware???
since you guys uploaded Virtua Fighter 2 again (btw thanks for that) can you please upload the PC version of this too? and all PS Store games too that aren't available on PC! much appreciated.
It is available on the PS Store, but it's for the PSVita and PS3, both of which sony, from what I understand, no longer officially supports. But this is abandonware on PC, as you cannot buy this on PC. -- you also cannot buy this on PS4/Xbox etc etc.
so can i download it from here??
This is abandonware again.

What kind of an idea was to remove the file from a PC game so people buy the PS3 version?!
This is being sold on PS Store, not on GOG
The game is not available on GoG.com. Not sure where you got that information from. In the US here and I cannot find it on GoG. Search produces no results.
LA-LI-LU-LE-LO !
so you say i didn't had to play with all the emulators and just download mgs2 from here?
This port is known to be problematic and can require a few fixes to get it running good. Check out this link for help and patches etc:
