Had this game on a 4" floppy disk that ran in an Apple 2C. I forget now if it was an official disk with a nice label or a handwritten label.
Either way, I do remember the trees were drawn in one by one, top to bottom. The distant trees drew in pretty quickly, but the closer trees took longer and longer to appear. If your ball landed right next to a tree, it would seem to take FOREVER to draw in from top to bottom. I suppose the Apple II struggled with the graphics.
I'm impressed to learn that this game was programmed in 1988! I'm impressed what they pulled off with the physics of the ball bouncing off of trees and placing everything in a 3d space.
Hi guys! I wonder If any of my fellow 8/16 bit gamers remember the following, and I'd also be interested to know If anyone had similar problems with this great game on any other platforms at the time, especially Commodore, Spectrum, etc........I played this game regularly around the 1989/91 period on my 'Amstrad CPC464', and although the Amstrad version was limited to 4 colours, It was actually graphically superior to this DOS version. However, It had an annoying 'bug' which meant that whenever your ball landed 2 feet from the hole - which happened a lot - It was impossible to get the ball in the hole! If you tried from 2-feet, It would always miss, and leave you 2-feet away on the other side of the hole! The only way out of this infernal loop was to purposely over-hit or under-hit the ball and thus leave yourself at any other distance from the hole (except 2 feet) and try again. Other than trying your best to avoid the 2-foot distance (very difficult) there was little you could do to avoid It several times per game; so you would always lose at least 1 shot for each hole on which It occurred. So annoying!
I'm enjoying this version, although the sounds are absolutely annoying - this seems to be a problem with many games on this website but, while It seems a bit unusual, we can always turn the sounds/music off and/or listen to our own music whilst playing. So no big deal, I suppose.
Best wishes to all you guys at 'MyAbandonware' and a big shout-out to all you mature guys out there who can still kick-a** on games!
This brings back so many memories and I can remember playing it back in the early eighties!
The Commodore 64 was a huge computer then, but the Amiga was the king.
The Peter Alliss (R.I.P.) version on PlayStation 1 was excellent.
Amazing Memories - Like from 89 !
Remembering playing this game at work in 1991 .. During my lunch hour, with another engineer - so simple to play . just the ^ and v keys and then the space bar .. but was so competitive .. thanks myabandonware.com for the memories and the fact that i can now have a round ..
The game is total nostalgia. Right now (27.jul.2019) i played it for the first time in 29 years. I feel like dreaming. :)
