NEC and Hudson released the PC Engine in Japan in 1987 and the TurboGrafx-16 in the West in 1989. Small and cheap, it led the Japanese market for a time against the Famicom and Mega Drive.
Its library was strong in shooters and action games, with Bonk’s Adventure as mascot next to R-Type, Blazing Lazers and many others.
Mednafen and other emulators run the TurboGrafx-16 catalogue on current hardware.
