In 1984 Elite gave you a whole galaxy to trade and fight in, with ranks to climb, and King's Quest let you walk a hero through drawn scenes and type what he should do. Platform fans got the huge mansion of Jet Set Willy, the robot rooms of Impossible Mission and the rolling ball of Marble Madness.
