This hugely underrated flight-sim adds a novel element to the genre: the pilots' personalities. True to the real-life characteristic of the B-17, a veritable "flying fortress" of WW2 bomber that houses a team of 10 pilots and gunners, the allocation of the best man to the best job and constant monitoring of their morale in this game are as important as your pilot skills. Missions are varied and interesting, and flight dynamics more or less accurate.
In a rare display of courtesy to the gaming public, MicroProse gave consent to the game's developers to release it as freeware in 1997, to cheers of fans worldwide :)

Not Il2 More like its grandfather, but in its day it was the escape to another world as a kid l could only dream of. There are videos on U Tube that will walk you through the basics
https://openretro.org/amiga/b-17-flying-fortress/docs/manual-en
Here's the full manual for copy protection
It's the Amiga full manual but works with PC DOS version as well
Fixed!
The link to ”buy the game” is to a completely different game (The Mighty 8th), released 8 years after this one!
FYI regarding copyprotection:
To play without protection- open B17.exe in a hex editor program and change address location 0003D1FA from 9A to EB and location 0003D1FB from 8E to 03.
Cool app
This is Microprose at it's finest. Tough learning curve but worth the time and effort, when you finally barely limp back from your first successful bombing mission. Back when games didn't hold your hand all the time and you weren't bombarded with tutorials and youtube guides and "letsplays" etc, people actually hand to use their brains and rely on skill.
I love this game! I played this as a kid all the time. One of the coolest flying/WW2 sims of the day. Similar to Aces Over Europe or other Microprose games of the day.
how can I dowlowd it there is no button to say download but it looks like a cool game
manual amiga:
EDIT: Thx fdisk
So many downloads were removed from MyAbandonware (mostly because of GOG, Steam and other websites willing to cash in on the big interest for abandonware)...
...I'm just glad I did a full grab of the old MyAbandonware.fr content (about 4110 games at the time) before most of these were removed from the site, so I could get them free (like they SHOULD be and remain!).
Smart move if ever I did one, hehe! (^_-)b
nice game
3D Flying games are harder to make than you might think. Espeically those that do flight simulation where you and AI actually fly according to physics versus video game rules.
Any hoo - this game works great but the pace kinda slow for me
how can you screw up a video game about flying?
EXE files have been around since DOS 1.0 - So Ignore Rukov - he knows nothing about executable file extensions. the ones now gone are COM files - but thats another discussion.
Now I'm going to try all this abandonware I've downloaded today!
cool game
Playing this great game on and off X 20 yrs.
GET THIS GAME! GET IT NAOW!!!
Atmospheric, realistic,.... even graphics are nice for that time :)
You might need to press M to get rid of autopilot :D
.exe files are for windows, dos uses others, you need to look in the folder.
Of course its free!
Controls are difficult, its simulator!
What the hell are the controls? I can't play the bloody game!
Is the game free
It is a very beautiful game
My brother and I used to take turns playing this game. It is a true classic!
