A fun RPG from the makers of Bloodwych, Wizard! improves on the standards set by that cult classic with even more exotic classes of characters to choose from, a much better interface, good puzzles in dungeons and a lot less mazes (thank goodness) this time around, and sharp VGA graphics that finally matches the Amiga version.
Although not a hall-of-fame material, it's a decent RPG that is fun for a while... before the combat becomes very repetitive.

Quite original when you think of the engine and the genre. Considering the year of the release it was something different however very much repetitive.
Someone here said that you should set CPU cycles in DosBox to max for this game but this is false, because it has internal cap for speed and highest number of cycles won't help it to run faster, instead it may make your gameplay experience worse in some cases and this is quite common for a lot of DOS games. More often than not they need a fixed number of cycles and for each game it's different. That's why I think that this site must have such information for each DOS game.
Just played through this and I had a blast. Even with the patch it's still buggy. Keys dissapear when you want to use them, so save before everything. Make a lot of saves.
The game is only fun though, if you make use of a bug/exploit to make combat more accessibly, otherwise you spend hours just running back healing/sleeping. So here it is...
Spoiler Alert: when you stand with your back to a gate (not doors), you're invincible. You can close gates that you opened before.

Glad to see modern indie games still draw inspiration from classics like this

Useless for playing online. Error message:
"WIZ.EXE not found! (You have to be in the WIZARD directory)"
but the WIZARD directory's missing.
DOSBOX running too slow? simple fix....in dosbox folder look for the
CONF file, right click and select edit, then look for CPU cycles and change
from auto(or whatever it is set to) to MAX,this should get the game to
run at a proper frame rate regardless of what DOS game you are playing.
there are many other things you can change as well like memory and improve
the visuals from the default shitty vga to a better looking more hi-res look
by selecting a different renderer like supereagle or something, just make a back-up
of your CONF file first before screwing around with changing values, dosbox is
awesome IF you take the time to tinker with the settings.
go look up ultima exult or somethin like that. its built to run the two parts of ultima 7 nicely
@zasz
Dosbox has certain key bindings to increase the games CPU *or game speed* so it should increase the framerate of it.
Two things about this:
1): it is a demon.
2): it ran slowly on my nice, new computer.
other than that, it looked ok...to be honest i did not try for that long because it as so slow.
does not work
the dos box opens then shuts down
