Amberstar

DOS - 1992
Also available on: Amiga - Atari ST

An Amiga hit that failed miserably on the PC, Amberstar is a novel top-down RPG that combines conventional RPG elements with adventure-game puzzles and ingenious riddles. The hallmarks of Amberstar, other than its excellent interface and story, is the sheer size of the game.

In this truly epic adventure, you will journey to far-flung corners of the realm in your quest for 13 pieces of the Amberstar that will yield access to the evil stronghold. With colorful graphics, tons of items and catacombs to explore, and colorful NPCs, Amberstar is a masterpiece.

Too bad Thalion never released the PC version of the outstanding sequel, Ambermoon. Two thumbs up, way up!

What an amazing rpg! I didn’t have the physical copy instead I played the heck out of this game on some dos site (dos.zone). Even though I had to have a guide to play with this since I was clueless and never beat it, it is in my top 30 best dos rpg list. This game had such a memorable everything! From atmosphere, to music, to encounters this game is awesome! The battle music got you pumped up (minor quarrels) and you just had to be there! My favorite part is when these talking rats kidnap and have some memorable dialogue. I’d tell you, but you just have to see it yourself!

Pressing the HELP key (pg dn in WinUAE) brings up the debug menu.
Pressing the 'd' key brings up the Amberstar Music Test.
