Knights of Legend ranks to this day among the most detailed RPGs ever created. It was designed to allow for future expansion packs that, unfortunately, never came out.
In your mission to vanquish the evil lord Pildar, you will choose your party members from 33 character classes, equip him/her with weapons chosen from hundreds of choices, and gather information from literally hundreds of characters, not to mention numerous side quests and monsters to kill, and amazing level of detail (for instance, you can get fatigued without rest, which will erode your abilities to fight in battles).
Most battles are long and and can involve dozens of monsters, but the wide range of combat options for each character (e.g. attack, rest, cast, put weapon in belt, and choice of counter attack) adds an interesting tactical element, and rewards from winning battles are high. Origin's ability to fit this huge game on a few 5.25" disks must be one of the most amazing programming feats in the whole of gaming history. Simply a must play for all RPG fans.

WAS HERE. PLAYED for at least 100+hours and died 1000x. I was a wee kid dont' know where to go, finish quest etc. Just the char creation alone was quite detailed and confusing. Awesome game.
love this game play twice in full and always missing one quest :)
M'friend had this for his Apple II, and it was pretty awful on that system. Extremely slow, "installing": (creating game disks) would literally take an entire over-night period to do, and the game play was hellish. I may have to check out the DOS version of this though, as it was highly rated.
Absolutely hated this game. Only played it for a few hours, then put it away. The combat was difficult and unrewarding to me. I preferred the Ultima games.
I never understood why this game didn't get any love. It had an interesting game world and one of the most in depth combat systems of any RPG before or since and the graphics and sound were amazing for the day.
A legendary RPG... tough, well designed, beautiful EGA artwork. A game for the patient, though. 9.5/10.
beautiful
Please please please! Release the expansions for the game, and maybe even reboot the game for hi-def game play, but stay true to the original combat system.
This is like the best nostalgic (also frustrating) RPG game ever. I was so clueless when I played this game the first time, and yet twenty years later, still clueless. I suggest to get DoxBox with save state to make this game easier to bear. It needs long hours of gameplay (per session). If you don't have that much time, better get the save-state version (VPN).
This is so Cool, was Playing this with my best friends saturday after saturday.
I played the hell out of this game. Sure, combat was slow, gloriously slow. The fatigue and weapon dropping were great, forcing you to consider lighter weapons and armour to survive the battles. Great game! Wish there had been more.
Wow- I wasted so many hours over so many weeks on this game. I remember the massive manual and pile of disks. Loved this game.
This game overheated my floppy drives on my C-64, But it was fun.
Old game but GREAT! Played for hours as a kid.
They never released the extra region disks so the game is not complete. But what is there is an all round awesome team rpg. The battles can take an hour or more to finish and the verbal description used in combat makes for a unique and exciting experience. Runs easy and great on DosBox!
Someone needs to remake this gem on a current console/pc.
