Line Wars II is a great update to the original Line Wars. The company line: "Play alone or battle your friends in modem and network play! Cruise through a true 3D environment in the Deneb star system, toasting pirate ships as you progress through 3 killer missions." The game boasts good graphics, excellent flight dynamics, and fun multiplayer modes.

Back in high school, I managed to get this game running on the computer lab's pcs after school using a network share to basically set up a LAN. I think at one point I had 5 or 6 kids in there playing the game in multiplayer. It was great fun, and the faculty was even getting into it.
This game is now freeware and can also be downloaded from the author's website:

He also made a Nintendo DS version of the game. You need a flash cart to play it on a real NDS, or else you can run it via the DeSmuME emulator. Also of note is his very own DSx86 emulator that can run old DOS games on a Nintendo DS. Cool stuff!
