Tearing down monuments absolutely is erasing history. If you don't want them on public display in a city square or something then relocating them to a museum or other educational institution is fine, but vandalism and forcibly tearing them down is not only unacceptable, it's literally illegal. However, you also make a fair point about conservatives wanting to ban books. In the past I used to be a conservative Republican myself, but abandoned the party and became more centrist after seeing the Republicans are just as crooked and hypocritical as the Democrats.

I think Flavious, your paranoia is somewhat hyperbolic. No one is coming for civil war games, also taking down monuments is not erasing history lol, especially when those monuments were only put up in the early 20th century to just further remind black folk in the south who their "masters" still were in the jim crow era. history still exists in books, film, museums etc just fine. If you do care about history being erased thn you should look at right wing conservative culture warriors and repubs banning books about slavery and the civil rights movement and even trying to ban books about the holocaust
