Commodore launched the Amiga in 1985, and it led 16-bit home gaming and multimedia from about 1987 to 1994. Its custom chips gave smooth scrolling, wide colour palettes and stereo sound that often beat rival consoles and PCs.
The Amiga ran Lemmings, The Secret of Monkey Island, Sensible World of Soccer, Turrican II, Shadow of the Beast and Another World, next to a busy scene of demos and shareware. Much of the best European action, adventure and sports design of the era started here.
WinUAE and FS-UAE now rebuild a full Amiga on modern hardware, from WHDLoad installs to original Kickstart ROMs.
