Played this game in jr. high it was very competitive, we broke controllers playing it, and Atari 7800 controllers were robust , the excitement really kicks in when you start takeing over Your friends score, don't bother playing the PlayStation version, what a turd, they took out everything that made it competitive, and added in these dumb gun powerups.

The best way to describe Ballblazer is football on acid.

You control the little ship and you can move f/b/l/r - you never need to turn as the game does that for you!! (It's a very fast-paced game and it can be quite disorienting).

You always face the ball, so if you go past it, or your opponent shoots it past you, you turn to face it automatically. Once you 'hit' the ball it sticks to you (unless your opponent smashes into you) - at this point it turns you towards the 'goal'. The goalposts are always move along the edge of the map (which is like a big chessboard). You shoot the ball through the goal posts to score a point. Every time you score your goal posts move closer together - a lot of the skill in the later stages of a game is being able to shoot through a set of moving goalposts that look about 1/2 a mile away and are about 2 feet apart :)

It's one of the most awesome two player games there is, I wish someone would do an updated version and stick to the original game, just improve the graphics.
