How do I become President and absolutely drop the ball and become a dictator by the second term?

I don't think this game has realism in mind.

Unrealistic. I couldn't figure out how to underpay my contractors. Nor was there an option to misrepresent the value of my real estate assets to get more favorable loan terms from the bank. Maybe someone has a mod where I can try to incite an insurrection but it isn't available in the base game.

Endless mode does not work - it still ends January 2013 whatever you choose or do.

I played through the whole game and found it rather interesting. It had relatively simple mechanics, but at the same time there was a fair bit of complexity.

The game gave me the option to keep the pre-generated names and logo: Ruthless Rick, head of Greed Inc. or to name myself, my company, and my company logo. Unfortunately I soon found out that these customizations reset to the pregenerated ones if I left the game or inbetween missions. They only save during a mission or a verses mode game. Being lazy, eventually I stopped renaming myself and kept to "Ruthless Rick".

That being said, there were two modes of play. The first one is the mission mode. There were 5 missions to complete, each one more challenging than the next, but each one also building up my skill set and knowledge of the game's mechanics. Each mission included a voiced briefing, some of which featured Trump's voice. Once the I was informed what my goals were, I was given free reign how I might met that goal. I had to restart some of the missions a few times, but this I did voluntarily. One bad investment can ruin the whole mission. But this game has a very concrete logic to it, which means that the player will only fail due to their lack of skill or strategy, not because of some arbitrary event or poor game mechanics.

Once I completed all five missions I earned the right to the second game mode: the verses mode. In this mode the player may now challenge "Trump" in a sort of free-for-all, head-to-head game. This mode features your typical 3 difficulty settings: easy, medium, and hard. Then it features game length. I chose easy and player for 7 years, which was a longish game, but not the longest.

The screenshots on this website are pretty self-explanatory. What you see is what you get in game. You have a mini-map at the top right, 5 different cities on the bottom: each in their own timezone, and to the right is you main realty options. You can choose to switch between your property's information, banks/loans, graphs that record your progress, a basic spreadsheet that records your profit and expenditures, and your save/load/quit options. The game features "city-life". People are walking on the streets and cars are driving on the roads. This is all aesthetics with no other purpose to breath some life into the game. The sprites are not all that varied, but then again, this has no bearing on game play.

A player may buy most of the buildings in each city, and plots of land, small and large, are available for purchase. They may choose renovate a current building, demolish it, or choose to build a new one from scratch on an empty lot. If they choose to renovate or build, they can choose what type and quality the building is, the duration it will take to build it, and how many floors of stores, offices, and condos.

Once built or renovated you may rent or sell your floors. But this is not as easy as it may sound. First, there must be enough demand to rent or sell these floors. The higher the demand, the easier it is to sell each floor at a higher price. After each sale or lease the demand lowers and so does your profit until demand picks up again.

There is much more to building, renting, selling, etc., so there is no need to describe them any further.

As far as Tycoon games go there are no surprises here. Buy, build, profit are its main elements. That being said it was a surprisingly fast paced game. Each mission was timed. If the player chose a longer verses mode game, like I did, he will still have to quickly maneuver around Trump if he wants to get ahead.

I would rate this game a 4/5: decent graphics, very playable, easy learning curve and calls for some strategy, and quick paced. It is a neatly packed game that works well, plays well, and give a nice little challenge. I did not come across any bug in the game. I think the only drawback would be that once you have completed the missions and have completed at least one verses mode with the Trump A.I, there is little else to do save to beat Trumps High Score. But personally, that is not my cup of tea.
