From Brian Moriarty's tribute to Dani Bunten:
"Command HQ's successor, 1992’s Global Conquest, was the first four-player network game released by a major publisher. Its absorbing mix of real-time action and resource development was the design prototype for an entire generation of combat simulations, including Dune II, Warcraftand Command and Conquer."
The game would sadly turn out to be Dani Bunten's last game she designed, before moving on to Mpath to create multiplayer-only games.

Version 2.0 *should* come with the DOSBox fix already installed. Run the included gc.bat file to run the game properly. Something of note is that this seems to be a very early game designed with a widescreen resolution (see the screenshots), so make sure that the game's aspect ratio is set to "original" or "16:9".
Interesting game, almost has a modern indie game feel. Aged a lot better than many strategy games of this era, has much more depth than I expected.
J'aimais bien ce jeu
Il fonctionne bien grace à vous.
Merci à tous
Many thanks to Libertytoad for the note on using the fix. I struggled for a couple hours, including installing GCFIX and GC.BAT. I run a lot of dosbox programs, so I always change to the directory I want and type the program name to start. In this case, I type GC. I didn't remember, until reading his note, that when there is a GC.BAT and a GC.EXE file, and you type GC, it will run the exe in preference to the bat. Simple fix, I renamed gc.bat to rungc.bat. Now I type rungc, and everything is golden.
An anecdotal story...i played this game in the 1990s when my son was 4 or 5 years old and he really liked the intro loading screen, both the theme song and graphics. Since it would loop over and over he would watch it for quite a long awhile without getting bored.
He wanted to launch it and watch whenever i was not available, so i made him a .bat file so all he had to do was press A and the key.
He is now approximately 30 years old. The other evening he heard the game sound effects from the execution phase of battle on telephone while we were conversing and instantly recognized the game. He even recalled the "A" method to launch it.
Nostalgia for both of us. :)
Wow, what a wonderful game for its time. I actually bought the original game back in the early 1990s and have the manual and 5.25 floppy. But i have no device to read old media. Am grateful to the folks at myabandonware.com to post this game.
What a great game. One of my favorites of all time. It has a fair amount of strategy and random maps with a lot of options to tweak things to the way you want them. The game also has some very funny events that can happen to you. I spent many, any hours playing this when it came out and I still play it pretty regularly.
Be sure use the DOSBox fix download to make it work in DOSBox. If you don't, the number of turns you can play will be very limited.
Saving the game extends the life.
Additional clerification RE my previous post: Game length will display as set, (I've tried 120 turns and infinite turns) while the game is setting up. As soon as you click to start game you can look at "game type" and it will show game length as 30 turns. Or you can play and it will announce a winner at 30 turns. At least it's twice as long as the 15 turn limit without the "fix" installed. But 30 is still too short.
Game duration seems to set to 30 turns no matter what the duration set at start. Is there a way to fix that?
What a fantastic game! To my knowledge, this is the first four-player multiplayer game for the PC. Dan(i) Bunten redefined what multiplayer meant. The wonders of DOSBOX and serial port emulation mean that you can now play this game multiplayer over the internet.
For those that have had troubles getting it to run properly in DOSBOX, there is now a fix posted here. It fixes the problem DOSBOX had with not properly emulating file attributes for the game's rudimentary copy protection.
Using DOS Box, but can't get it to launch. Any tips from anyone?
why doesn't global conquest download work? it directs me to the M.U.L.E. page instead. I remember this game fondly and would love to play it again!
Thank you!
link does not have game
need to input a word from the manual to allow install. where can I find the manual?
Any other hints on installing this game? The real game/manual are at my parents house...
Designed by the legendary Dani Bunten of M.U.L.E. fame, this was one of the first tactical games ever that allowed network play. I still fondly remember doing so and being amazed. Of course titles such as this one do not age too well, but I'd still recommend giving it a try and experiencing a milestone for yourself
