Metal Rage is a lackluster 3D shooter from Titus.
It remains probably Titus' least known game, but you will discover why very soon after you start playing: this is a sub-par game that is not fun to play, let alone introducing anything new. You basically go through poorly designed levels, shooting anything that moves, then find the exit to do the same thing all over again. The city levels are semi-interesting and look half decent in SVGA, but their dull, repetitive design cannot capture even 1/10th of my interest compared to Bethesda's oldie The Terminator.
If you must play every FPS ever made, you'll ignore whatever I say anyway ;) But if you want a quality game, there are countless better choices than this uninspired underdog. The bland gameplay is just not worth the amount of hassle required to get this game running on modern PCs (if you have no real DOS mode, you are out of luck).
Not a Real Dog: just a thoroughly average shooter.

This one's definitely for those who like it flat-shaded, lol!
I'd rather compare it to Raven's NecroDome, Criterion's Scorched Planet or even Scorcher by Zyrinx since all these games are from 1996 and all got texture mapped polies. Wait a sec! I've just recalled another example with proper textured meshes called SlamScape. It has somewhat bizarre game design, but it surely got its specific charm. Oh, btw it also works within modern OS no problemo whatsoever!
Speaking of Scorcher: it's 1 of those extremely rare examples of a game from late 1996 capable of running in hi-color display mode. It's the main reason why its sys.reqs were so high back in the day, but man does it look truly eye-candy for its time! The closest game in terms of superior graphics was the second release of Scorched Planet which contained both executables: a) generic lo-color palette software rendered & b) hardware accelerated hi-color for the 1st gen 3DFx chipsets (Voodoos) using Glide instead of conventional DDraw routines. I imagine those who saw it with treit own eyes couldnt believe it was true. Much like reactions to Quake being hardware accelerated, I guess. Eye-popping, jaw-dropping, breath-taking, mind-blowing or simply WOW, MAN!
