How to Play
The game has been tested on Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 10, it works fine. You may experience some small troubles when you play the game on modern systems, check our Guide and Notes for details
Install & play guide (for English (UK) version):
- Mount the disc image of CD1. You will need the utility for mounting disc image files, like WinCDEmu, UltraISO, Alcohol 52%/Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools Lite
- Install the game. It is recommended to install the game not in default path, but in some other, non-system folder, like
C:/Games/Secret Weapons Over Normandy. When the installation process will ask for next discs - mount the next CDs. We recommend to mount the next CDs in same virtual drive as CD1, so first un-mount disc image of CD1 and then mount the disc images of next CDs - After you installed the game - open CD4 (Play Disc), go to
UK/Moviesand copyGalleryfolder toSecret Weapons Over Normandy/UK/Moviesdirectory (the directory with installed game), then go toPC/Musicon CD4 and copy all audio files toSecret Weapons Over Normandy/PC/Musicdirectory. That way you will have all audio and video files in the game folder - Then use NoCD (for European (UK) release), simply copy files from the archive and put it into game directory, agree to replace the original files
- Open the directory with the game and find SWON.exe. Right click on SWON.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Set "Run this app in compatibility mode with Windows XP" and "Run as administrator". Then open
Secret Weapons Over Normandy/GameDataand select compatibility mode with Windows XP for Tesla.exe and Tesla_pt.exe - Launch the game and play. If the game doesn't work in compatibility mode with Windows XP - try to launch it in compatibility mode with other version of Windows (Win98, Windows ME, Win2000, etc.)
That guide is for English (UK) version, if you install the other language version, the step with CD4 will be slightly different - video files (Gallery folder) might be in another folder, for example if you install German version, Gallery folder is inside German/Movies directory on CD4
Notes:
- If the installation doesn't start - try to launch Setup.exe in compatibility mode with old version of Windows (98, 2000 or XP)
- It is recommended to install all versions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and NET Framework for the correct work of the game. Also it is recommended to install K-Lite Codec Pack for the correct work of in-game videos
- The game works on DirectX 9, so if you're using Windows 8, 8.1, 10 or 11 - you need to enable DirectPlay: Go to Control Panel, and select 'Programs'. Select 'Turn Windows features on and off', click on 'Legacy Components' and check the box 'DirectPlay'. Select OK, once the installation is done, restart your computer
- The game doesn't have any DRM protection, only the simple disc check, use NoCD to remove it, don't forget to copy video and audio files from the fourth CD before that, as it's mentioned in the guide above. Please note that NoCDs for different language versions are not 100% compatible (videos won't work, like if you use NoCD for English version on German version, the in-game videos won't be playing), so use NoCD patcher by FBSA to manually remove the disc check. Unfortunately, that NoCD patcher doesn't work on 64-bit systems, so as alternative use the mini-image, simply mount it in virtual drive to bypass disc check, it works with all versions
- By default, the game works only in 4:3 screen ratio, and supports only the limited number of screen resolutions. You can try to edit the executable file with HeX-editor to enable higher screen resolutions, check this thread for details
- Alternatively, you can run the game with dgVoodoo 2 and enable wide screen resolution through dgVoodoo Control Panel, but the image will be stretched. Also, with dgVoodoo you can run the game in high resolution with Antialiasing or Texture filtering, it can be enabled in same dgVoodoo Control Panel. You can combine different settings with each other, like to run the game with original 4:3 screen ratio and AA + Texture filtering
- We recommend to run the game with dgVoodoo 2 if you have any graphical issues. If dgVoodoo didn't help - try to use one of other display wrappers
- If you have problem with broken sound effects or disappearing sound - first try to change the sound settings. If it didn't work - set sound quality to 24 bit, 48000 Hz or 24 bit, 44100 Hz. Read this guide how to do that
- The game has controller support, it should work fine with gamepads and joysticks. Once you connected the controller, select it in Options in Launcher. If the game doesn't recognize your controller - try using one of the additional tools from PCGamingWiki guide for controllers

Comments and reviews
After installation from the CD iso images on Windows 11 25H2 (26200.9168) swon.exe kept complaining about wanting to install DirectX 9.0b even though
(Control Panel) Turn Windows features on or off Legacy Components DirectPlay
was enabled.
Copied from dgVoodoo 2.87.4:
dgVoodooCpl.exe
dgVoodoo.conf
D3D8.dll
D3D9.dll
D3Dlmm.dll
DDraw.dll
(D3Dlmm.dll, DDraw.dll may be optional but both D3D8 and D3D9 are required) into the \GameData folder found in the game's installation folder. After launching the dgVoodoo control panel (dgVoodooCpl.exe), launched \GameData\Tesla.exe and the game initialized properly.
Stuck with the 800 x 600 resolution.
By default the input device is "Joystick". This can be changed to "Gamepad" under
Options Input Device
though that doesn't really change much on an Xbox 360 or Xbox Wireless Controller (Model: 1914) on Advanced Flight Controls with Flight Stick Mode:
Pitch up: LS_v down
Pitch down: LS_v up
Roll left: LS_h left
Roll right: LS_h right
Fire Primary: A (button 1)
Target Lock View: B (button 2)
Fire Secondary: X (button 3)
Zoom Camera: Y (button 4)
Air Target: LB (button 5)
Ground Target: RB (button 6)
"Target At Will": DPAD_v up
"Attack My Target": DPAD_h left
"Defend Me": DPAD_h right
Landing Gear: DPAD_v down
The key controls that are missing are rudder (yaw left/right; Z2) and throttle (A1).
Fortunately the controls can be remapped under
Options Input Device Remap Controls
though for whatever reason the left trigger isn't recognized. Approximating the layout on the original Xbox:
Fire Primary: RT (Z1-)
Fire Secondary: RB (button 6) RB is equivalent to OG Xbox black button which was mapped to “Reflex Time”.
Ground Target: X (button 3)
Air Target: A (button 1)
Target Lock View: LB (button 5) this should be on the non-functional LT. LB is the white button on OG Xbox which would be “Toggle Camera”.
Zoom Camera: B (button 2)
“Target At Will”: DPAD_v up (D-pad Up)
“Attack My Target”: DPAD_h left (D-pad Left)
“Defend Me”: DPAD_h right (D-pad Right)
Increase Throttle: RS_v up (Y2)
Decrease Trottle: RS_v down (Y2)
Nose Up: LS_v down (Y1)
Nose Down: LS_v up (Y1)
Roll Right: LS_h right (X1)
Roll Left: LS_h left :X1)
Yaw Right: RS_h right (X2)
Yaw Left: RS_h left (X2)
Reverse View: Y (button 4)
Toggle Camera: View/Back (button 7) moved here from OG Xbox white button.
Reflex Time: Menu/Start (button 8) moved here from OG Xbox black button.
Instant Replay: Share (button 12)
Landing Gear: DPAD_v down (D-pad Down)
Other ex-Lucasfilm properties from 1990-2010 are on GOG, why not this 2003 title?
@zlan - Try to lower the DPI of your mouse. If you have some gaming mouse that requires extra drivers - try to replace it with some regular mouse.
Also, try to run the game with dgVoodoo, it should fix the compatibility troubles. If you have troubles with Full-Rip, you can use repack by Magipack, it has the simple installer
My dad loves this game. I tried setting it up for him, but we can't get the mouse working.
I tried getting the Full-Rip version of the english game, but the swon.exe installer kept crashing. Opened the game files and ran Tesla.exe, and while the game runs, it doesn't detect the mouse. Any tips from anyone?
i remember this game on ps2, its pretty damn amazing, great memories, very fun, the slow down feature is a godsend when things get very hard or your skill cant cash the dificulty checks
the music is pretty great too
