A fun frag-fest that pays homage to the arcade classic Battlezone, Spectre is a fun multiplayer 3D tank game that features a great capture-the-flag mode, cool futuristic graphics, and intuitive interface.
Although the computer AI is capable, the game is very addictive in multiplayer mode. Spectre VR updates the original Spectre 2 years later with better graphics and more tank types to choose from.

I started at level 50 and was one flag away from making it to level 52. At level 51, it says "not bad," in red. What does it say for level 52 at the intro? I've been trying to find this answer since 1998 since I last played the game. Does anyone know this? It only applies to the MAC version. Or can anyone get the answer to this? Just at the level 52 introduction what does it say in red? Thanks.
I think I like this version much better than the later VR version. It's easier to play, and you don't bounce up & down when you run over certain squares.
Is it good?
Can't remember which sector.. But if you use a hex editor in the config file. you can give yourself a faster tank, more ammo etc
How can it be? The downloaded version gives me an error: not enough memory to load graphics. Despite the same files are working in the browser version of dosbox...
What version of dosbox could make it work?
I used to play this a lot. Now I have the VR version but might have to download this one to see what the difference was. Been quite a while since I've played this.
I remember playing this on my Grandad's Mac when my sister and I visited on school breaks (early 90s). We'd fight who got to play first, longest, and who had the highest score.
this is the first computer game i ever played.. even before minesweeper... computer 95 in computer class we realized we can easily downlod it to the drive from astalavista... got nothing done in that class
Thanks! I could not find this game ANYWHERE!! I once had this game but could not find the disc anymore. You made me happy!
...The Mac version was a big deal when it first came out, because it was - supposedly - the first game for the Macs that would work over (cr)Appletalk or one of those proprietary network flags that ol' Blow Jobs raised and only his sycophants saluted. Not a bad game, just not as good as it could have been.
Cool
