Beijing 2008

How to Play

The game with NoDVD has been tested on Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 10, it works fine. If you want to play online, signup on OpenSpy (GameSpy revival) and download the fix made by AlfredoAnonym.

Notes:

• If the installation doesn't start - try to launch Setup.exe in compatibility mode with old version of Windows (98, 2000 or XP)
• It is recommended to install all versions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and NET Framework for the correct work of the game. Also it is recommended to install K-Lite Codec Pack for the correct work of in-game videos
• The game works on DirectX 9, so if you're using Windows 8, 8.1, 10 or 11 - you need to enable DirectPlay: Go to Control Panel, and select 'Programs'. Select 'Turn Windows features on and off', click on 'Legacy Components' and check the box 'DirectPlay'. Select OK, once the installation is done, restart your computer
• The game is using SecuROM DRM protection, which may have issues on modern systems and requires the disc for launch. NoDVD "breaks" DRM protection and allows to run the game without the disc. To use it simply replace Beijing.exe in game folder with exe-file from NoDVD archive
• If the game doesn't work - try to launch it in compatibility mode with old version of Windows (XP or Vista) and as administrator
• When you run the game, it will ask you if you want to create GameSpy account for online multiplayer - press "No" (K button by default). GameSpy service was closed years ago and its servers doesn't work anymore
• Online multiplayer of the game doesn't work, since GameSpy servers were closed. But looks like you can play the game online by using one of GameSpy alternatives. Also, the multiplayer game via LAN still works, and you can use LAN emulators like Hamachi or RadminVPN to play the game online
• The game has very unintuitive keyboard layout, so it is recommended to change the key bindings if you don't like the standard layout. If you don't know how to do some specific actions in the game - check this page with detailed instruction (we also uploaded it as TXT-file to our website)
• The game supports controllers, but only for some brands. It should work with Xbox controllers, and probably will work with most of Logitech controllers, but for other controllers you'll may need additional utilities like XInput or Xpadder, check PCGamingWiki for details
