The beta goes down at 08:00 Paris time, in a few minutes. We rebuild the database from the live site. It comes back in about an hour.
This is another game that may disappear from this and other abandonware sites if GOG get their way.
They are asking their community to vote on whether to add it to the GOG library. This would be a great pity as there's not many games of this type available for free.
GOG already have the best Submarine Sims that used to be free for a while.

The release version had the bug that the game crashes if you give movement orders. There was a patch for it.

I found my CD for this game along with Panzer Commander and Luftwaffe Commander. SSI sold them as a collection not long before the brand was phased out. The pack included the DOS version of Silent Hunter, but I must have lost that CD at some point.

The ISO download seems to be in Russian or both the autorun and setup exe's use some kind of antiquated or non unicoded font my windows 10 loaded machine cant read or display properly. This has also happened with another ISO format game I downloaded from here a long while back too although I forget the name of it off the top of my head. Has anyone experienced this before themselves or knows of a solution to the language/alphabet being completely different?

Antonio H Bittencourt, really, you don't know what you're talking about. Better say you like more GNBNA.
Fighting Steel is light years a better game.
