Half-Life told its 1998 story without a single cut scene, and Baldur's Gate brought deep party role-playing back to the PC. StarCraft gave three races different rules, Grim Fandango set a noir adventure in the land of the dead, and Thief made hiding in shadows and listening for guards the main skill.
