Doom sucks. Isle of the Dead rules. This game took all of Doom's faults and improved upon them. Y'all just salty, cause this game is too hard for you. Git gud.

ok i want to get this straight. this game was banned and unplayable? come on it is only for 386DX computer we know it's a knock off of contoversial game of Wolfenstein 3d and i know there is a warning on the comic which it is not for younger kids audiances in the first place before the video game or pc or macintosh game rating system by vrc or esrb or pegi cero etc for example.

Just about to review this for my blog (Google my name if you want to see it)
I actually think it's okay as a B-movie type game!
It maybe helped that I knew to explore the plane first, and to use the machete to travel right round the other side of the island to pick up the shotgun behind the other side of the plane, but I found the shooting on a par with Wolfenstein and the puzzles I've encountered so far pretty easy (using the phrase book to understand people for instance).
Sure, bits of it are in bad taste (like the suicide when you quit) but I think that was kind of the point!
But if you take it as a low budget pre-Doom Wolfenstein rip-off, then it comes out looking not too bad actually! I wouldn't have liked to have paid full price, but I can't believe people are still so harsh on the game when you can download it for free.
Far from the worst game ever, and wouldn't even be in my top 100 worst games list...but then mind you, I have played a lot of bad games! ;)

Funnily enough this game could be decent if it had some shooting enemies. This game just failed so much on quite basic design which is sad.

You are all not very bright or like to talk about things you no nothing about as if you do. "Yabeen Sees" at least saw the innovations we made and contributed the gaming world. IOD came out in 1993 before Spear of Destiny, let alone Doom. Rainmaker Software, Inc was inspired by ID Software's Wolfenstein in 1993 to form the company. We produced Isle of the Dead and published it that same year. We had no idea how they got such incredibly high FPS on the 386 66mz boxes out at that time. The render engine we came up with is faster than theirs when up close to something but theirs was much better at farther distances. President of Rainmaker Software, Inc. Bruce J Mack

If IOTD is a FPS, then it is the ET of FPS games. The controls are unresponsive, it's repetitive, you have to redo entire sections if you make a mistake or forget something, etc.
Playing IOTD is an act of masochism.

NOTHING like Doom. Not a Doom clone at all. Anyone who says it is a clone is a fucking idiot that never even played the game.

Carlsgro, you have no idea what you're talking about. Yes, it is a first-person shooter, and likely wouldn't be around if not for Doom, but did Doom have an inventory system? Dialogue? Examining the environment? If it's an anything -clone, I'd call it a Pathways into Darkness clone.
In short, stfu noob.
