Along with Interplay's Shuttle, definitely one of the best space simulators ever released.
Similar in concept to the better-known MS Flight Simulator, this game lets you pilot various spacecrafts, ranging from NASA space shuttles to futuristic space stations. Excellent details (especially planets in SVGA resolution), realistic space flight dynamics, and versatile camera & film options. The steep learning curve is eased by excellent on-line tutorials and help files.
Note: The game has long been discontinued by Microsoft, but its legacy lives on. Check out Orbiter, an outstanding (and free!) space flight simulation that is continually being developed and expanded.

does anyone know how to run this on Windows 11?
epic!!!
Search youtube "retrovision orbiter tutorial". There you will have links not only for Orbiter (which is recommended by the description) but also links to HTML tutorials because space navigation is not intuitive. These tutorials are very graphical.
That channel also has a video about an Endor Star Wars game made by a fan. The fan website was put down, but the game survived and it is linked in the description of that video. Before installing the game, read the readme files of the mods, because you need to install in a specific directory for the graphical improvement addons to work.
I installed it on Windows 10 with dosbox and it works fine! It is not only a game but also a space educator. It contains every information needed for knowing about stars and planets. Although old information and Pluto as a planet is contained, but it is ok. I just want to tell you it's a fun and good game. Download it.
I thought it was a very good game. It works well on dosbox
I got hemorrhoids from not going because I could not stop playing this. Can I sue Microsoft for damages?
I have the original game and an original manual. If someone explains me how, I will post it.
Wow, It´s game are very easy!
Amm... I don´t know this game is hard.
Yeah, Yeah.
So we have one guy with 5 copies of the original box, and one guy with only the manual - but no one has posted the manual??
...thanks for letting us know. I feel much better about not having access to a manual, just knowing that there are definitely some available being unused.
I found this game in 2017 and played . had trouble playing this on new pc , but i could play it on my old win98 PC very easily . And I thought , even in 2017 , this is the best game I have played . I wonder why MS abandoned this gem . SS is much more fun than Flight simulator . Why cant spacecraft sim be more fun than plane sim ? you know .
It runs fine in DosBox but it does not like my virtualBox version of Dos for some reason.
I played this on windows (98 I THINK....) in dos mode....trying to run it on Dos 6.22 in virtual box and not having much luck...says it needs memory. Will get it fixed tomorrow
TO INSTALL:
Run Disk1.exe
Run FINISH.bat
For Graphics, select max resolution and for video card, select option #0.
Everything else is explained by the installation program. A couple of file errors occur, but the game should run fine.
i dont get how to install the game
EDIT: Keyboard Quick Reference added, thx fdisk ;)
Pro Tip Guys
just Download Boxer app, it runs DOSBOX but its an Automatic Ones, i do not know if its compatible with Windows or Linux? but it is Perfect for Mac OSX
I try to start the game, and FAIL. Any ideas on what's wrong? The screen flashes, then returns to DOS BOX, showing this at top:
Microsoft Space Simulator (C) 1997 BAO Ltd.
Thanks in advance.
@What: Commenting about outdated graphics on a game from '94..... "Fail".
Wow, look how pixellated the earth looks in the 3rd screenshot. Fail
@wilbur0311 that is because it is a dos game, because of that you need to run it in a DOS BOX.
cant get this to run
...This sim has a major place in computer history: it was the last program Micro$oft released that was a DOS-specific program. After this, everything M$ developed only ran on some form of Windows.
...There was an expansion set in the works when this came out that would add a Mercury-Atlas, a Soyuz booster, and one of the early Nova designs - probably the "Saturn 8" - with scenarios for each. The Atlas one was to be John Glenn's flight, which would have been very welcome. Alas, the sim sold poorly, and M$ employees were given stacks of the boxed set to give away just to get them out of the warehouse. Which is how I got my five copies, natch.
...Be advised: this is like Orbiter, in that it works on actual physics. So unless you know how orbital mechanics works, don't be surprised if you find docking to the space station a total bitch and a half. The manual for this is a must, and IIRC a PDF of it was posted online a couple of years ago. Google might help you find it, but I had no luck this time around. My Google-Fu failed me, much to my shame :( :(
I had this game in 1994 but only played it for a week before someone stole my 386 computer and software. They took all my software. All I had left was the manual I had with me to study. I keep the manual all time time and now I can use the simulator again. It's not a game. More like a study of astrophysics. Thanks.
so cool
