TRUE CRIME: STREETS OF LA SOLUTION FOR NOT LAUNCHING / BLACK SCREEN / GENERAL FIXES:
1. If you've downloaded ISO Version and after installation it doesn't start at all, take the EXE file from the RIP Version and replace it in the installed game folder. Change the executable file's compatibility to Windows XP and give it administrator privileges. You will probably get black screen at start but at least it launches now!
2. Download Large Address Aware tool, launch it, choose the game's main folder, tick the box and save.
3. Next fix is to get dgVoodoo - paste dgVoodooCpl.exe, dgVoodoo.conf and MS folder into True Crime folder. Take all files from x86 folder (inside the MS folder) and copy them to the main directory. Give dgVoodooCpl administrator privileges.
4. Open dgVoodoo from the game's folder, make following changes in General and DirectX tabs: - Output API - Direct3D 12 (feature level 12.0) or Best available one - Appearance - Full Screen - Miscellanneous - check Keep windows aspect ratio and Capture mouse - Videocard VRAM - 4096 MB - Miscellanneous - check Force vSync and uncheck dgVoodoo Watermark if you want (make sure it works in-game first)
5. Get WidescreenFix and place it in True Crime folder.
The game should work properly now. There might be some irreparable issues occuring here and there, including audio problems. Some things might require more tinkering on your side. You can download it all if you just serach, that's why I'm not providing any links. If something doesn't work, do your own research and fiddle with the tools I've mentioned. Good luck! :)

This game had a very big impact on me as I started to play it as a child but did not complete it. True crime was fascinating back then which is kind of frustrating because I did not finish it. But thanks to you guys I get to play it again.

This is the worst game i ever played in 35 years of being alive
if you make an open world like that, simply fuck off, let the player enjoy it. The developers easily ruined this game. You cant do ANYTHING in this game. Anything slightly fun or cool the developers made sure you cannot do it. Try to explore. They teleport you back to the road. Try to shoot. He reloads every second. He likes to shoot one bullet then reload. Everything is scripted. Fights lock you into the opponent. Everything is faked in favor of scripted animations. The game just will not let you play it. It refuses to let you play it. It NEEDS to play the game for you.
when will game developers realize their talents/ideas are literally unwanted. Just make an open world. Give the player a car and a garage to save cars. A storagechest for all the guns they collect, a manual save system. Then fuck right off. This would have destroyed gta3

my own cars sounds dont work for me either and i downloaded multiple versions from multiple websites. Oh well
im happy with the fact that i can play this game at 640x480 and upscale it to 1440x1080 using integer scaling
integer scaling isnt scaling, its native-ing. Its my latest new obsession i had no idea it was THAT good. Modern games cant use it because modern games dont use real pixels, literally, they use slopxels, literally. Not exactly literally but almost literally.
DLSS and TAA is a joke, if you ever see someone enjoying it make sure to laugh right at their face. TAA is a crime that should never have been created to begin with, and DLSS enhances it. Also laugh at anyone who says "DLSS4 looks better than native" because modern games do not have native. Period. Even with everything off its clear the pixels are still mutilated.. So what is this "native" they are comparing dlss to?
Integer scaling is the only scaling method that should exist, its literally lossless. Mathematically identical. However modern games use fake pixels so integer scaling cant do its thing and they had to invent DLSS/FSR for upscaling SLOP

I tried both, the ISOs and the ripped version. None of these even start on Windows 10 (latest updates installed).

I actually got it to work first time I tried, no modifications to my system necessary. My problem with this game is what SEEMS to be NO CONTROLLER SUPPORT, and the ABSOLUTELY ABYSMAL CONTROL SCHEMES!!!! It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. I couldn't even FIND a button for ADS, which made shooting IMPOSSIBLE, buttons that were necessary for even BASIC functions were positioned ALL OVER the keyboard. Some buttons were needed for MULTIPLE functions -ie some buttons used for driving, shooting AND fighting etc-. For those of us don't have a great memory, it's hard enough to remember even BASIC controls across all the games we have, but when you have controls that use the same button for MULTIPLE functions through different situations, forget about it.
I'm really mad about this, if they had just added controller support, none of that would be an issue.
It honestly really makes me wary of DLing any OTHER games from this site, which makes me both angry and sad because there are a NUMBER of classic games that I can't find anywhere else, that I was hoping to find HERE.

True Crime: Streets of LA has a lot of soul, which drew me in right from the start. I was intrigued by the 'light' and 'dark' paths you can take, essentially offering two main storylines for the price of one. The branching storylines as you progress add to the excitement.
However, the worst parts of the game are the shooting mechanics and boss fights. I had to resort to using Cheat Engine to give myself healing options just to get through them. I can't imagine how console players tolerated the timed scenarios and button-mashing fights, although consoles did have cheats that the PC version lacks. That's right! The PC version doesn't provide unlock cheats or God Mode.
Despite its flaws, I'm grateful that you're preserving this game. Hopefully, the next installment has better reviews and improved gameplay, as suggested by video reviews. Keep up the good work!

Couldn't get the ISO version to work after installation, but the ripped version works and seems to have the music and everything. Works on Windows 10 with a Windows XP Service Pack 3 compatability

Good old True Crime. I love this game! It's too sad that it didn't got too much attention and was forgotten through time.
By the way, for those who might have a bug with grey screen: Just right click on this game's exe file and set compatibility mode with Windows XP SP3 or earlier and that will fix it.
And if anyone has problems with stretches textures of grass or side of the road then there is d3d file on pc gaming wiki. Download it and put it in to your game's folder. That will fix any texture problem.

I see that some people claim the game has a virus. Can anyone actually confirm this, or is it a false positives that some antivirus programs detect by mistake and others do not?

does the RIP version remove the "SafeDisc" DRM? just wondering if this is worth a try on SteamDeck/linux as theDRM sounds like disabled by default on Vista & above?

anyone get working on Steam Deck? i installed on PC & transfered files, normally works, but just black screen. Tried various protons & Bottles. Using bottles showed a new error maybe old DRM related? would love to get working to have ability to use right stick or Track pad to shoot. Ive tried ps2 & xbox emu but cant go back to using left stick to aim. Really can configure around it as need left stick to move normally when not in aim mode.

Used to play this so much back on my xbox, and then on ps2... It just does not run well enough on any emulators, this really is the best way to play besides buying a ps2, xbox etc
This version runs perfectly for me. Just download the rip version at the top and run the exe, everything is safe Never had issue with this site

I had a lot of fun with this one. It's one of several GTA3-likes that had a large open city to play in. It's mostly driving but also some guns and fighting. The city does have a lot of landmarks in it; it's from that sweet spot in gaming where the 3D stuff was getting a little better, but it didn't need a supercomputer to run.
The stories I've read from other players about scenarios the mission generator would build are the best. One time I went to go deal with some dudes that were chicken fighting. I show up, everyone runs, I chase one dude, lose him, and find out someone stole my cop car by the time I got back and now all I got are a couple of chickens!
Another player told me of the time he got a call for a domestic disturbance. He shows up and it's two women fighting. LOL, this game was progressive before its time!

I was going to play the game, but it removes itself. That's because of my antivirus thinking it is a virus. it's a false positive.

I was about to check the game out myself(Yes, i have the game legally on the gamecube) on pc, but when i launch the EXE of the game, it removes itself but not the files. Maybe it's an anti-piracy measure?

@SleepyGoose Sure ill take a look. Tried emulating PS2 & GC versions but forgot how dodgy control scheme was, using left stick to aim, instead of right. Looking forward to seeing enhanced graphics and framerates hopefully not locked to 30-60fps. Need some 120fps Snoopdog action :P

@BOB The game does work. It has all everything. I'm even making some videos on it if you want to check them out on my youtube (which should hopefully start soon). The only problem i have is that it can crash randomly and you can't disable full screen.

If i remember right, to get Snoop & his car, you had to find something like 50 bones around the city. Atleast thats what i did back on the Xbox in 2002 i think
